The LSU Tigers’ pursuit of Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin became public on Monday.

LouisianaSports.net’s Matt Moscona reported on Monday that members of Kiffin’s family, including his ex-wife Layla, flew to Baton Rouge to tour LSU and the surrounding area.

It’s unclear exactly which members of the Kiffin family made the trip to LSU — it was hard to tell from the grainy photos circulating on social media — but numerous fans and members of the media speculated that Kiffin’s son Knox, who is a quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class, made the trip to Baton Rouge to check out high schools.

Moscona joined McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Tuesday to discuss Kiffin, and he noted that Knox was not part of the Kiffin entourage that made the trip on Monday.

“So we actually broke that story on LouisianaSports.net about Layla Kiffin flying to Baton Rouge yesterday, and I can tell you that is a 100 percent certainty,” said Moscona. “She was in Gainesville on Sunday. They went back to Oxford. So, the Kiffins have three children. Landry, their oldest, is a student at Ole Miss. Presley, their middle [daughter], is a volleyball player and student at Southern Cal — she lives in California. And then Knox, their youngest, is a sophomore in high school, and he has a high school football playoff game this week, so he did not come to Baton Rouge.

“MMR is a multi-billion-dollar company based out of Baton Rouge. The MMR plane left Baton Rouge yesterday morning, landed in Oxford, picked up Layla and other members of the Kiffin family. Being [that] it wasn’t their children, I think we could probably deduce that it was Chris Kiffin’s family that that joined Layla in Baton Rouge (Chris is Lane’s brother). Chris’s wife, Angela, they have four children. I’m told it was two of their children that joined Layla in Baton Rouge. They landed in Baton Rouge shortly before noon. They spent six hours in town. They did not make public appearances. I think they wanted this a little bit on the down low. They weren’t touring schools or homes. They weren’t out being seen publicly. I think this was for the Kiffins, every time they’ve been to Baton Rouge, it’s been land at the Baton Rouge airport, drive to the college, drive to the Marriott, go to Tiger Stadium. That doesn’t necessarily represent Baton Rouge. So is this a place where they think they could live and their family could live? That was the point of the trip yesterday.”

I don’t think anyone (not even Lane) has any clue how this saga will play out. It’s definitely interesting, though, watching it play out in real time. College football coaching searches are known for being wild and unpredictable. This search — which directly impacts Ole Miss, Florida, and LSU — is certainly living up to the high bar set by previous high-profile SEC coaching searches.
