The Michigan Wolverines haven’t made it look easy in recent weeks, but they are winners of four straight and have put themselves in position to push for a bid in the College Football Playoffs. It will take some chaos to get there, but the Wolverines are still in the fight.

This is entirely contingent on the results of The Game at the end of the season, but there are things that could happen around the country that would help increase Michigan’s chances if they do pull off the upset in Ann Arbor.

What teams should fans be rooting for to help the Wolverines’ schedule out enough to help put them one step closer to another berth in the College Football Playoff?

#8 Oklahoma OVER #22 Michigan

Quality losses, people, quality losses. Evidently, this is about 90% of what the committee looks for, and Michigan needs all of their losses to be as quality as possible. Oklahoma pushing for a top six seed would be ideal for Michigan’s chances at making the CFP, even if it means having to play the Sooners in Norman again.

#15 USC OVER #7 Oregon

Another example of quality losses. Michigan’s two losses being teams who would likely both be in the playoffs come the end of the season if these results hold would be huge for convincing the committee to sneak them in at the end. Additionally, USC knocking out Oregon keeps the Wolverines very slim odds of playing in the Big Ten Championship game open, while an Oregon win would eliminate Michigan entirely.

Cincinnati OVER #11 BYU & Kansas State OVER #12 Utah

I’m clumping the two of them together because it’s the same rationale for both of these teams. Knocking BYU and Utah out before the conference championships helps ensure the committee doesn’t have to the merits of multiple Big 12 schools in the picture over the Wolverines. I think Michigan would get in over either simply due to brand pow-…I mean strength of resume, but knocking one or both of these two out would save everyone some headaches.
