Joe Brady and the Bills’ offense get ripped to shreds by DeMeco Ryans in a now-viral clip after the Texans’ tough Week 12 loss
DeMeco Ryans tore into Joe Brady and the Bills’ offense after the Week 12 game.
The Buffalo Bills got outcoached, outmanned, and flat-out beaten by the Houston Texans in Week 12. It was a game where quarterback Josh Allen was sacked eight times, with heavy pressure applied by a dominant Texans’ defensive front. It was the type of game that has Bills Mafia questioning whether or not this team has what it takes to reach the Super Bowl.
Of course, it goes without saying that Buffalo was battling through their fair share of injuries, but so is every other team in the league. The Bills were without one of their premier pass catchers in tight end Dalton Kincaid, but it’s hard to imagine the score being any different even if Kincaid were active.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans opened up about the Bills’ offense and how they were able to shut down offensive coordinator Joe Brady and the Bills’ offense. It’s a worrying sign that the head coach knew exactly what to do to slow down the Buffalo offense.
“It was a scheme that we don’t see much,” Ryans said. “Most of the time, we’re getting a lot of chips, seven-man protection schemes. They really put a lot on the quarterback’s play like guys are going to have one-on-one matchups and they really were hoping that he could escape the pocket. I thought the was the best game that we had of guys being in sync.”
Joe Brady needs to do a better job moving forward
Ryans ate up everything that Brady threw his way, and let’s be honest, it wasn’t a lot. Mesh concepts and bubble screens weren’t going to do the trick, nor was a run up the middle with running back James Cook against the No. 1 defense in the league.
Head coach Sean McDermott has opened up in the past about the offense being too cute, and after some abysmal efforts, there have been growing calls for Brady to be relieved of his duties, though we can’t see that happening at this stage of the season.
Still, when an opposing head coach knows exactly what you’re going to draw up, the time for being cute gets thrown out the window, and Brady needs to find a way to adapt the offense, regardless of how the fan base feels about the players at the various skill positions for Buffalo.
At some point, Brady has to evolve, or the Bills will just keep getting exposed by coaches who are simply better prepared. Buffalo doesn’t need to perform miracles, just an offense that has some answers when defenses punch first. If that doesn’t change anytime soon, the Bills won’t just fall short of a Super Bowl; they’ll be out of the playoff picture entirely.
