Brandon Beane and the Bills front office have failed Josh Allen during the prime of his career
An inexcusable effort from the front office to get Josh Allen some reliable weapons.
The Buffalo Bills front office has failed quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen is one of the best at his position, winning the MVP last season and continuing to find ways to score touchdowns in bunches in 2025, despite some issues with the current state of the offense.
General manager Brandon Beane and the front office haven’t done Allen too many favors in terms of getting him reliable weapons to ease the burden off his shoulders. Yes, the team did bring in wide receiver Stefon Diggs, which was a game-changing move for Buffalo. Pairing Allen with a true No. 1 wide receiver was electric, and it’s something that the fan base hopes happens during the offseason.
However, taking a look at the pickups after Diggs, it just leads us to believe that the team has failed Allen during the prime of his career. There were rumblings that the team would try and make a splash at the trade deadline to bring another top-tier weapon into Buffalo, but that fizzled out after Miami reportedly wanted a 2026 first-round pick that Buffalo wasn’t willing to give up.
With no deal at the deadline and a clear need for another weapon, the team signed veteran receiver Brandin Cooks to the active roster. This is no shade at Cooks, but he’s not the same player he once was, and it’s not the splash that the fan base was hoping for.
A look at the receivers brought into Buffalo after Diggs’ departure
The latest Cooks signing spurned a lot of conversations on social media, one in particular seemed the most damning when looking at the weapons that the front office has tried to bring in to work with Allen. Again, it’s no disrespect to the players on the list; they’re just not big splashy names.
Since Diggs left Buffalo, the team has signed or traded for Curtis Samuel, Elijah Moore, Mecole Hardman, Josh Palmer, Gabe Davis (twice), Amari Cooper, Brandin Cooks, Mack Hollins, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. A lot of players, with not a lot of production on the field.
When you stack that list next to the rest of the AFC contenders, it becomes even more glaring. The Chiefs signed Hollywood Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy, while the Texans surrounded C.J. Stroud with Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Even teams like the Colts and Jaguars have invested premium picks and cap space into surrounding their quarterbacks with playmakers. Look at New England with Stefon Diggs and Drake Maye as another example.
Meanwhile, Buffalo has once again tried to patch together a receiving corps with stopgaps and short-term rentals, some of whom appear to be underperforming for the amount of money it took to bring them into Buffalo. Allen can mask a lot of issues, but he can’t magically solve all of them. At some point, the bills come due, and 2025 feels like the season where the lack of a true difference-maker is finally catching up to them. “Everybody eats” has been a struggle more than once this season.
Allen will always provide Buffalo every chance to win, and the front office has hit on plenty over the years — but this offseason is a moment that the team needs to go big again. Just one strong offseason move at receiver, the Bills can give their MVP the support he deserves.
