Latest injury update on Chiefs LT Josh Simmons’ wrist is a bad one — and friendly fire may have caused it
An NFL insider says that Chiefs LT Josh Simmons will be out indefinitely after his Week 13 injury.
As if the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys wasn’t bad enough, it’s now looking even worse after the latest injury update on rookie LT Josh Simmons.
Simmons was ruled out of the Week 13 game with a wrist injury during the fourth quarter. Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed the injury following the game during his postgame press conference, just moments after Simmons was seen exiting the locker room with a cast on his left wrist. Now, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has confirmed the worst-case news for Simmons and his injury. The rookie suffered a dislocated and fractured wrist on Thursday. Rapoport says Simmons will be out indefinitely. He’s scheduled for an MRI tomorrow after the team returns to Kansas City, at which point he’ll figure out treatment options.
This is hardly the news that the Chiefs want to hear about their first-round draft pick from 2025. It’s tough news to hear, given that the Houston Texans are coming to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 14 and boast the league’s best edge-rushing duo. It’s even tougher news to hear now that we seem to know what caused the injury.
Chiefs LT Josh Simmons’ injury appears to have been a friendly fire incident
Perhaps the worst part of Chiefs LT Josh Simmons’ injury is that it seems to have been caused by friendly fire from a chip block by RB Kareem Hunt. KSHB-TV’s Matt Foster tracked down the final play before Simmons left the game with his wrist injury. Simmons’ wrist appears to get caught between Hunt and the defender he’s tasked with chipping on the play.
“Why OTs hate chip help, part 1000,” former Chiefs RT Mitchell Schwartz wrote on X. It’s an unfortunate situation for Simmons, who was having quite the rookie season. With five games left to be played, and the Chiefs’ playoff hopes slipping away, it’s hard not to wonder if Simmons’ rookie campaign might be over.
