Nick Sirianni goes to bat for Kevin Patullo despite glaring evidence that shows how bad things have gotten for the Eagles
Nick Sirianni is prepared to go down with OC Kevin Patullo.
It’s hard to fathom that the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles’ offense is nearly identical to the 2024 version that won the Super Bowl. Sure they have been injured up front and lost a few pieces here and there, but the continuity among that unit after winning the championship is why many had them favored to do it all over again.
Yet through 12 games played, this year’s offense is worse in nearly every stat and metric you can think of. Points, yards, touchdowns, and first downs have all declined compared to 2024. The run game has fallen off a cliff, averaging almost 70 yards less per game, and the efficiency is down in the dumps, with this year’s offense seeing an 80% decline in EPA per play. But does Nick Sirianni plan on changing anything? Not exactly.
Nick Sirianni stands by Kevin Patullo as play caller
“You know, we’ll evaluate, obviously, everything. But like I said to you guys, when you win, when you lose, it’s never about one person. We all collectively have to do a better job,” said Sirianni when asked about changing play callers via CBS Philadelphia’s YouTube channel. “And that’s going to be starting with us as coaches, starting with me as a coach, finding solutions to getting the offense going.
So I’ll put that on us with the staff, and put that on me most individually to help get this thing going in the right direction. But, yeah, no, sticking with that [same play caller]. It’s the greatest team sport there is, and it’s never about one person. We all have to look internally, and we all have to get better. Coaches and players.”
Look, when you inherit offensive personnel that boasts the best tackle duo in the NFL, the reigning offensive player of the year at RB, an (albeit disgruntled) All-Pro WR and a Super Bowl MVP at quarterback, no one wants to hear about it being your first year on the job. Right or wrong, that’s life in the NFL as a coordinator and the life of Kevin Patullo right now.
To gain insight from another pair of eyes, I spoke with Adam Holt of A to Z Sports to see what he thought of Sirianni’s comments after watching this offense.
“Sirianni’s refusal to make any sort of changes in play calling is a head scratcher. I understand that they’re backed into somewhat of a corner at this point in the season, but the faith in Kevin Patullo has absolutely dissipated. The running game found success at times, but it was also too predictable against Chicago.
When they were in clear passing downs, the offense stalled consistently once again. As the head coach, there’s only so many routes you can go when Week 13 has concluded, but the results are giving you all of the information you truly need. With no changes expected, it’s really hard to expect notable improvement in the overall offense performance, though.” -Holt
