The Ole Miss Rebels are in jeopardy of losing the best thing to happen to them in a long time. Head coach Lane Kiffin, as everyone knows by now, is stuck in a tough decision. Does he stay at Ole Miss, the school that really put him back on the map as an elite coach? Or does he go to coach the LSU Tigers?

The Rebels need Kiffin, and honestly, he needs them. Don’t look at the future of what could be, or at what’s happened. In the present, in the now, he has a chance to win a National Championship. That alone is enough to tell him what he should do.

CFB analyst Joel Klatt says what needs to be said to Kiffin

“Coach, you want to win a National Championship? Then look in the mirror because it’s right in front of you right now at Ole Miss,” Joel Klatt said on Big Noon Kickoff.

Klatt is right on the money here. The goal for every single coach, college or NFL, is to win a championship. You go to the place that puts you in the best position to do so. Ole Miss has him in the best position to do so, as he’s currently knocking at the door.

Ole Miss is about to play a College Football Playoff game, and they came just short of making the CFP last season. Meanwhile, LSU has yet to make it in this new format.

LSU is a job that will take a full year to rebuild to the way Kiffin wants that program to be. They have no culture, no winning mentality, and no players like his. LSU may set you up better long term with the money he will have at his disposal, but he can win right now at Ole Miss, and he can start his own legacy now. If he wins at Ole Miss, he will be the first to do so there, whereas at LSU, he’ll be following in the footsteps of someone else.

The decision should be about more than just the money he’s being offered. If he truly wants to win and build a legacy, Ole Miss offers the right environment right now.
