Bills’ Josh Allen sounds off with blunt postgame message just seconds after Week 13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers
Quite the response from Josh Allen after the Week 13 win.
The Buffalo Bills found a way to win in Week 13, thanks in large part to the running effort from running back James Cook. It was a gritty, tough victory that at one point looked like it would be another abysmal performance from the Bills.
Quarterback Josh Allen started off the game with an interception, and then a fumble by Cook a few drives later put Buffalo behind early. However, a second-half opening strip sack for a touchdown saw Buffalo retake the lead and never looked back afterward.
Allen opened up about the overall performance with a blunt postgame message just moments after the win, and his comments are some that all of Bills Mafia can get behind. The team was down several key playmakers on both sides of the ball, including starting two new offensive tackles, something Allen addressed just moments after the game.
“I mean, unbelievable job. Obviously, worked real hard game planning-wise,” Allen said. “That’s a credit to our offensive staff. Them going out there and doing their job. I heard we set a record for rushing yards in this stadium, which is so cool. I’m so proud of both of those guys. They continue to work extremely hard [ . . . ] it was very cool to see them get their opportunity tonight and they took advantage of it.”
Allen made history in the Week 13 win
In the victory, Allen rushed for a touchdown, surpassing Cam Newton for the most regular-season rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in NFL history. Once again, Allen wanted none of the recognition after the contest, pointing out his teammates and the incredible effort they displayed.
It wasn’t without faults, as the passing offense looked anemic at times. The reigning MVP was asked about the issues with the passing game, and he made sure to leave nothing to the imagination.
“We had some opportunities down the field, they played back, and we were throwing it underneath,” Allen said. “With this d-line, you don’t want to sit there and take a seven-step drop and pat the ball because they’re coming to get you. I think it was more game plan, finding space, letting our guys work underneath. And the way that we ran the ball again, there wasn’t a huge need to take shots. Understanding what type of game this was, a little bit of wind, a little bit of cold, personnel-wise of who they got, who we got. This is a typical AFC North type of team where ball possession, field position, is crucial to the game. I think that’s kind of what we did tonight.”
In the win, the team had over 200 rushing yards, which was the most in Pittsburgh since 1975. Cook was a man on a mission, and Allen made sure to give the talented running back his flowers.
“I mean, he’s one of the, if not the, best backs in football,” Allen said. “The way that he can just grab the ball and hit the hole as fast as he can, the way that he can move. Shake the first guy; he’s very rarely tackled by the first defender. He makes our offense go.”
The Bills still have plenty to clean up, but a road win built on toughness, discipline, and a dominant ground attack is exactly the kind of momentum they need heading into the final stretch of the season.
