Chiefs’ failures in Week 13 loss to Cowboys immortalized in NFL history with record-shattering viewership numbers
The Kansas City Chiefs are one half of the NFL’s record-setting regular-season viewership game.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys had a whole lot of eyeballs on it, so much so that it’ll be remembered as the most-viewed regular-season game in NFL history, according to CBS Sports.
57.230 million viewers watched the Thanksgiving Day game, up 47% vs. last year’s Giants-Cowboys matchup at 38.380 million viewers. It shattered the previous NFL record by 36%, which was set by a Giants-Cowboys game in November of 2022 at 42.059 million viewers. The audience peaked at 61.357 million viewers and the Paramount+ streaming platform recorded its most-streamed NFL regular-season game since its inception.
“The NFL. Thanksgiving. Chiefs. Cowboys. A perfect recipe for a record audience. We’re thrilled and honored this NFL showcase on CBS and Paramount+ delivered the most-watched regular-season game in NFL history,” said David Berson, President and CEO, CBS Sports, via press release.
Chiefs can draw extra motivation from this viewership news
The Week 13 loss did enough damage to the Chiefs’ playoff chances as it stands, so they can’t let this news contribute to that. On one hand, they should be proud to be part of this historic moment for the NFL. On the other hand, over 57 million viewers tuned in to that game and saw it slip away from Kansas City, with penalties, drops, and mistakes at the forefront.
That’s going to be their lasting impression of this football team unless they can flip the switch in Week 14 against the Houston Texans on “Sunday Night Football” and in every game down the stretch. The mighty Chiefs aren’t so mighty right now, and they’re going to have to prove a lot of people wrong during the next five weeks.
Chiefs’ remaining 2025 NFL season schedule
- Week 14: Texans
- Week 15: Chargers
- Week 16: @ Titans
