Chiefs fans throwing in the towel on 2025 NFL season after Andy Reid’s latest offensive line announcement for Week 14 vs. Texans
Chiefs Kingdom had some strong opinions on Andy Reid’s plans for the offensive line in Week 14 vs. the Houston Texans.
Injuries have hard hit the Kansas City Chiefs on the offensive line heading into Week 14 against the Houston Texans.
Starting RG Trey Smith is tracking to miss his second consecutive game with high and low ankle sprains. Starting LT Josh Simmons was just placed on injured reserve with a wrist fracture and dislocation. Starting RT Jawaan Taylor is dealing with ankle, knee, and triceps injuries, which are keeping him out of the first practice of the week.
The reality is that the Chiefs could very well be starting three backups along the offensive line in what amounts to a must-win game against one of the NFL’s most productive defensive lines. It’s hardly the ideal situation for Kansas City, but the plan, given those likely and potential absences, has fans already throwing in the towel on the 2025 NFL season.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid says Wanya Morris could be the team’s starting left tackle in Week 14 vs. Texans
Asked about the injury situation and whether Jaylon Moore was in consideration for the left tackle spot in Week 14, Chiefs HC Andy Reid discussed his plans at offensive tackle. There seem to be a few different possibilities, all of which come down to Jawaan Taylor’s status. If Taylor can overcome knee, ankle, and triceps injuries to play in Week 14, Moore would undoubtedly get the nod at left tackle as he did when Josh Simmons was absent earlier this season.
However, if Taylor doesn’t play on Sunday night, that’s when things get dire for Kansas City.
“Yeah, well, we’ll see what happens with the injured guys first,” Reid said. “But yeah, (Jaylon Moore would) probably be at the right tackle and Wanya (Morris) at the left, if that’s the way it went.”
As for the backups getting snaps in general, Reid expressed confidence that two of them (Morris & Caliendo) played against the Texans in the team’s 27-19 win over Houston last season.
“I mean, the one positive is two of the three of them played against them last year, so they’re good job so that they know what they’re up against,” Reid said. “That’s a great defensive front, great defense. I mean, all three levels are really good, and they’re number one in a lot of categories there, defensively. But those guys are, they’re getting themselves ready to go.”
Chiefs’ projected starting offensive line for Week 14 vs. Texans
- LT Wanya Morris
- LG Kingsley Suamataia
- C Creed Humphrey
- RG Mike Caliendo
- RT Jaylon Moore
Again, it’s hardly an ideal situation, no matter how you set things up, but the idea of Morris at left tackle has left fans incredibly concerned.
The frustration is understandable, too. The Chiefs did everything in their power last offseason to virtually ensure that Morris was not in line to get meaningful snaps. They signed Jaylon Moore and drafted Josh Simmons after Morris started 11 games, allowing five sacks, 35 pressures, and 10 penalties. Even just swapping Moore to left tackle with Morris at right tackle would make all the difference, and it seems like a sound coaching choice given their history playing the position as well.
At the end of the day, the game still has to be played, but this has the makings of a decision that could cost the team before they even set foot on the field.
