The Tennessee Vols are in the middle of a recruiting standoff.

On Wednesday, 2026, four-star athlete Legend Bey flipped from Ohio State to Tennessee, officially signing with the Vols and seemingly ending a whirlwind recruitment.

There are now reports, however, that Bey wanted to sign with Ohio State, but he was pressured into signing with Tennessee.

Bey could ask to be released from his national letter of intent with Tennessee, or he could choose to enter the NCAA transfer portal in January.

“Sources told 247Sports Wednesday evening that Bey was unhappy with the decision and would seek a path to be released from Tennessee and end up at Ohio State,” reported 247Sports’ Mike Roach. “We were told that this would likely play out in three weeks when Bey turns 18 years old on Christmas Eve, but Bey decided to communicate his unrest Thursday.”

Vols insider shares the latest update on Legend Bey’s status

VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Friday, and he shared the latest on Bey.

“I know Tennessee had conversations with him yesterday,” said Hubbs. “(Vols wide receivers coach) Kelsey Pope had a conversation with him yesterday. They (Tennessee) obviously talked to him all day on Wednesday. We’ll see what he elects to do. At this point, he can choose to go into the transfer portal when it opens on January 2, and he could move on if he wants to.

“He cannot engage directly in any conversations with any other school right now, other than Tennessee. [Via] a third party, they obviously can. But where is his third party if his family wants him at Tennessee? So, we’ll see what happens on that one. I mean, Legend had a hard time making a decision to begin with. We know that. He had a commitment date scheduled two or three different times before he announced Tennessee, and then he went on the Ohio State visit and flipped there, and then obviously flipped back. He turns 18 before the end of the year, which means he doesn’t need any parental help or signatures or anything like that moving forward. And once you go in the portal, you don’t have to anyway. If he really wanted to avoid all of this, he could have just waited and not signed and then just showed up at Ohio State in January. They’re on the quarter system. They actually start school earlier than Tennessee. But he decided to sign, and then decided that he didn’t want to sign. I don’t know exactly where he’s at when he wakes up this morning, or where he wants to go to school.”

It sounds like an unfortunate situation all around. Hopefully, Bey can sort through all of the drama and land at the school that he truly wants to be at.

For now, it’s unclear when Bey’s situation will be resolved, but it’s worth monitoring for Tennessee and Ohio State fans.
