The Las Vegas Raiders are amid a frustrating campaign in Pete Carroll’s first season. Unfortunately, they got more tough news on Sunday afternoon as they battle a division foe as well.

Raiders CB Kyu Blu Kelly goes down with scary injury vs. Broncos

Raiders cornerback and Las Vegas native Kyu Blu Kelly was forced to leave the team’s Week 14 rivalry matchup with the Denver Broncos due to a knee injury. Shortly after the play where the injury occurred, Broncos WR Courtland Sutton motioned for the Raiders medical staff to come out to help. Kelly was carted off with an air cast on his leg.

The Raiders quickly ruled the young defensive back out with a knee injury. It was a scary situation for everyone involved.

I talked to Justin Churchill, a fellow A to Z Sports contributor with plenty of Raiders knowledge, about the impact of Kelly this season and his outlook going forward.

“Coming into this season, no one made much of a big deal about the Raiders bringing Kyu Blu Kelly on. However, their secondary was bad with little to no depth and a lot of youth. At training camp, Kelly was great. During the preseason he left him mark as a guy who is going to have a real role on the team. After being drafted early by the Baltimore ravens, and then being waived, Kelly found himself staring at another opportunity to show the world he is an NFL player.

He’s had an up and down season, but has managed to maintain his role on the defense. At times, Kelly has made some big plays on a defense that hasn’t gotten much help from the offense or special teams. Other times, he’s been on the bad end of some plays, specifically botched coverage. he showed some promise this season as a guy who can really continue to develop. There were some questions this season about the team’s chemistry.

After seeing Kelly go down, you’ll see the entire Raiders team gathered around him before he was carted off, proving their chemistry is stronger than many realize. Kelly has been an important part of the team, and what happened on Sunday was scary. You can’t help but send positive vibes his way, and towards his family as well.” — Justin Churchill
