Chargers veteran loses his job just hours before Los Angeles’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles
The Chargers had to make moves ahead of their primetime matchup.
The Los Angeles Chargers are making a difficult, but necessary, decision right before they hit the field for Monday Night Football in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles. One of their veteran pieces in the trenches is being let go in order for the Chargers to make other moves along their active roster.
Chargers waiving Naquan Jones to activate players from injured reserve
The Chargers are waiving nose tackle Naquan Jones, according to Tom Pelissero. Once Jones if off the active roster, there is not another NT on the depth chart for the Chargers. It is likely that Los Angeles will attempt to get Jones back on their practice squad.
Jones has been some notable depth for LA this season. Rookie DT Jamaree Caldwell has been the team’s usual starter at nose tackle, but when he has missed time or needed rest, Jones has stepped in for him. Jones is in his fifth season in the NFL.
Defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia and running back Hassan Haskins are both designated for return from injured reserve at some point.
Omarion Hampton’s expected return for Chargers offense
Rookie running back Omarion Hampton is set to return to action for the Bolts against the Eagles. Hampton has not played since Week 5. He began this past week at practice in a non-contract jersey, but Friday’s practice was full participation for him – including contact. Jim Harbaugh expects him to be good to go.
Quarterback Justin Herbert is also widely expected to play after undergoing surgery this past week on his left hand. The full group of roster moves for Los Angeles will most likely be announced later today.
