The Buffalo Bills pulled off the thrilling fourth-quarter comeback against the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a statement victory as Buffalo continues to make a postseason push.

Outside of quarterback Josh Allen putting the team on his back, trading in the C on his chest for an S and willing his team to victory, there was another MVP of the contest: Christian Benford.

Running back James Cook spoke up about Benford’s big play after the game, saying exactly what Bills Mafia was thinking after the victory.

“That’s why we paid him, (expletive),” Cook said. “So, you know, to make plays. He made a big play when we needed him. Like I said, we won, so just keep going.”

Benford’s pick-six was the difference-maker

Benford has been playing at an All-Pro level and deserves all the flowers in the world. He had a crucial pick-six late in the contest that swung the momentum back to Buffalo. Benford read the play like a book, though after the game admitted he was out of his technique. The talented cornerback scampered his way to a touchdown in one of the most exciting moments of the game.

Cornerback was lights out in the win against the Bengals

Benford was once again playing at an All-Pro level against the Bengals. Outside of his pick-six, he had a sack and a tackle for loss with a pass defensed. Benford was all over the field, making life difficult for Burrow and the offense.

What’s more, Benford was tasked with shutting down the top option for the Bengals, and he did that beautifully. According to Next Gen Stats, Benford had two targets, with zero catches allowed and zero yards in 16 matchups against Ja’Marr Chase.

In the past two weeks, Benford has had the same number of touchdowns that Lamar Jackson has had in the last four weeks. Just a wild stat that shows how dominant Benford has been of late, earning praise from Cook for his efforts.

James Cook played well, needs to stop fumbling the ball

The talented running back had a great game, but there’s one big issue that needs to be addressed, and that’s his issues as of late with holding onto the football. In the game against Cincinnati, he had a costly fumble that rolled in the end zone when the Bills were driving down the field, giving the ball back to Cincinnati at a moment that felt like it was going to be it for the Bills.

While he’s been a difference-maker on offense, Cook has five fumbles with three lost in the last five games, something that needs to be fixed immediately. Self-inflicted wounds will hurt this team in the long run. Echoing the sentiment from head coach Sean McDermott, the team needs to play clean, complementary football.

At the end of the day, the Bills won because their stars delivered when it mattered the most. If Allen was the engine, Benford was the spark that flipped the game. Clean up the turnovers and self-inflicted wounds, and this is a team that can beat anyone in the AFC.
