The Kansas City Chiefs’ injury situation looked like it got even worse during the Week 14 loss to the Houston Texans, but Andy Reid’s latest update provided some signs of encouragement.

Injuries have defined the Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season, with a collision in Week 1 taking Xavier Worthy out of the picture for three weeks, first- and second-round draft picks Josh Simmons and Omarr Norman-Lott on injured reserve, along with numerous injuries along the offensive line and in the defensive secondary.

Getting healthier could go a long way for this team, and it seems they’re making some incremental strides in their first practice ahead of a critical Week 15 game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, even potentially dodging a bullet with an All-Pro.

Chiefs’ Wanya Morris and Jawaan Taylor will miss practice on Wednesday

The Chiefs will be without two offensive linemen during practice on Wednesday, according to Coach Reid.

“As far as the injuries go, the guys who won’t practice today are Wanya (Morris) and Jawaan (Taylor),” Reid said. “Wanya is going to take a little time here, but Jawaan’s making progress, and we’ll just see how he does this week as he works through this thing.”

Reports indicate that Morris suffered a season-ending knee injury, so “a little time” might be an understatement from Coach Reid. Anticipate that Morris will be placed on injured reserve, marking the team’s 12th addition to IR this season

With those two players as the only ones slated to miss practice on Wednesday, it means that one starter is back in action for the offensive line after missing time.

Chiefs’ current injured reserve list for 2025

  • DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah
  • TE Jake Briningstool
  • S Deon Bush
  • LB Brandon George
  • RB Keontay Ingram
  • DB Nazeeh Johnson
  • DT Omarr Norman-Lott
  • DE Janarius Robinson
  • DB Chris Roland-Wallace
  • DB Eric Scott
  • LT Josh Simmons

Chiefs RG Trey Smith to return to practice in some capacity

Trey Smith suffered an ankle injury in the early goings of Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts. It was later revealed that Smith suffered both high and low ankle sprains in the same ankle and that he’d miss some time as a result. He missed Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys and Week 14 against the Houston Texans, but there’s a possibility that he makes his return to action in Week 15’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Smith will, at the very least, return to practice on Wednesday.

Asked about whether he feels good about where Trey Smith is at right now, Chiefs HC Andy Reid seemed cautiously optimistic. He typically likes to see guys work in practice before making any sort of promises as to their availability for the upcoming week.

“Yeah, well, we’ll see how he does today,” Reid said. “He’ll be in there today, though. Yeah, just feeling better.”

The Chiefs might have dodged a bullet with Trent McDuffie’s knee injury

Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie suffered a hyperextended knee in the Week 14 loss to the Texans, but it won’t keep him out of Wednesday’s practice, according to Coach Reid.

McDuffie suffered the injury while attempting to defend Houston WR Nico Collins on a 46-yard reception. He was spotted on the sidelines with a knee brace on after the injury, but also kept his helmet on as if he could’ve returned to the game, even though he was ruled out and never did return.

“Yeah, we’ll just see how today… Let’s see how today goes,” Reid said of McDuffie. “He, you know, he’s been sore, so we’ll see how it works through the week, but he’ll go today and see what he can do.”

If McDuffie can play in Week 15, that’d be a massive boon for the Chiefs. His versatility to play both outside cornerback and slot would be a big help in defending Chargers standout wide receiver Ladd McConkey.
