Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ NFL career now mimics Tom Brady’s in the worst way possible
Mahomes and the Chiefs are hoping they can follow a similar path with more rings.
On Sunday, we witnessed the Kansas City Chiefs get eliminated from the playoffs. They fought until there was no fight left – well, quarterback Patrick Mahomes fought until there was no fight left. Mahomes laid it all on the line for his team, and as a result, he ended up getting injured in what looked to be a pretty scary knee injury.
“I don’t think I’ve ever respected anyone I’ve played with more,” backup quarterback Gardner Minshew told reporters regarding Mahomes.
The Chiefs lost the game on an interception by Minshew, but it was clear the team was gutted after seeing their leader go down. As unfortunate as it is, this injury could mean something great is on the way. In the worst way possible, this injury only further mimics Tom Brady’s career.
Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady have had similar starts to their NFL careers
Tom Brady is the greatest football player ever, with seven Super Bowl rings and having beaten Mahomes twice. Didn’t mean to run salt in the wound, but we must get the point across about why it’s so wild and unbelievable that he and Mahomes have similar paths in the first nine seasons of their career.
In Brady’s eighth season, he was going for his fourth ring, but lost in the Super Bowl. The same can be said about Mahomes, who was going for No. 4 last season but lost in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In Brady’s ninth season, he injured his knee, and the New England Patriots missed the playoffs. Mahomes just injured his knee against the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Chiefs are set to miss the playoffs. Granted, Mahomes injured it in Week 15, and Brady in Week 1.
Brady then went on to win four more rings after the injury, to get to seven total. He’s the best player of all time because of what he did in the back half of his career, after the injury. Mahomes could be on a similar trajectory, for all we know.
If there is anyone lined up to be better after a knee injury, it’s Mahomes.
