BeyWatch is finally over for the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Vols have been in a holding pattern regarding one of their top recent signees in four-star WR Legend Bey out of Texas. Bey was a signing day flip and signing with the Vols back on December 3 on the first day of the early signing period. It was a move that caught fans and media alike off guard.

However, after signing time, rumors began to circulate that Bey had a change of heart. Then, reports began to surface that Bey wanted to reverse course and go to Ohio State. Things took a turn for the bizarre when stories emerged about a stark contrast between Bey and his family about where to go, and that he may have been pressured to sign with Tennessee.

Finally, after almost two weeks since signing him, the Vols have made a decision about Bey. According to VolQuest, the Vols are releasing Bey from his letter of intent, freeing him up to sign with Ohio State.

Tennessee releasing Legend Bey from his letter of intent

Bey made his request on Monday to be released from his letter of intent, and Tennessee wasted no time in granting that request.

Bey was previously committed to Tennessee until November, but he flipped his commitment to the Buckeyes after visiting Columbus. That’s why it was a bit of a surprise to see him flip back and sign with Tennessee on early signing day. However, a now-deleted post on Twitter (X) said that he would not sign to the school that his family wanted him to, and that put his prospects of landing in Knoxville very much in question. There was little doubt as to the veracity of those reports when Bey was later seen working out in Ohio State gear.

It’s a no brainer move for Tennessee in today’s transfer portal world. Bey could have just found another way out of town had the Vols dug their heels in for some reason. The only thing Tennessee could do to their own benefit was take the high road approach and do right by the player, and they did just that.

Now, Bey, Tennessee, and Vol fans can finally all go their separate ways for good.
