It doesn’t get much worse than losing 26-9 to the Tennessee Titans, who had just two wins going into a December matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Then, your backup quarterback, Gardner Minshew, tears his ACL, so the third-string guy comes in and has to play. Even if none of that happened, it feels like Andy Reid still wouldn’t have had his team ready to play.

At this point, it’s pretty obvious that the only one who can give this team any real chance of beating anyone is Patrick Mahomes. Without him, it’s obvious just how bad this team is, and how much he was covering that up with how good he is. This game also showed that the Chiefs may well lose. That’s fine for a good draft pick, but you don’t want to get too used to losing, unless they’ve already gotten to that point.

Andy Reid didn’t seem to learn from the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles

“Nobody likes losing in the business,” Reid told reporters after the embarrassing loss to the Titans on Sunday. “But, my hat goes off to the guys who put together all these years as part of it. We can learn from it and need to do that going forward. Sometimes a good kick in the tail helps you there.”

So, you need this loss to the two-win Titans to help you learn a bit? The double-digit loss in the Super Bowl, which was one of the most lopsided games in modern Super Bowl history, wasn’t enough? To me, that sounds like they are already getting used to losing this season. Sure, that sounds a bit dramatic, but let me explain.

This is not the type of thing that Reid ever said during the dynasty run. This is the type of thing you hear Pete Carroll say every Sunday when he’s coaching the two-win Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs should not be in a stage where they are still learning from a butt-kicking every time that butt-kicking happens. If you’re learning from them, then they should stop happening.

This loss is embarrassing, and it shows that the Chiefs could finish 6-11. That’s not something any Chiefs fan or player has been used to the last nine or ten seasons.
