The Kansas City Chiefs are continuing to look for ways they can improve their roster on the margins as the 2025 NFL season comes to a close.

According to the NFL’s personnel notice for Monday, Dec. 29, the Chiefs hosted 13 players for tryouts. This comes after recent roster moves have led to six players being signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, and with the NFL’s reserve/future contract season just around the corner. Brett Veach could very well sign a few of these players to the practice squad for Week 18 vs. the Las Vegas Raiders, and he could be eyeing some others for reserve/future deals after the season wraps up.

Here’s a quick look at each player who was in the building for tryouts.

Chiefs host 13 free agent players for tryouts

WR Andrew Armstrong

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 202 pounds, Armstrong went undrafted out of Arkansas in the 2025 NFL Draft, despite putting up some impressive numbers in pre-draft workouts, including a 4.51s 40-yard dash. In 2024 for the Hogs, Armstrong posted 78 catches for 1,140 receiving yards, but was unable to capitalize on his size in the red zone with one receiving touchdown. Armstrong spent the 2025 NFL offseason with the Miami Dolphins, but failed to make their roster. He recently spent a week on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad before being released.

DB Isaiah Bolden

A former seventh-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 2023 out of Jackson State, Bolden saw the early goings of his career cut short after a scary injury in preseason Week 2, where he had to be immobilized, taken off the field, and was subsequently placed on season-ending injury reserve. The 6-foot-2 and 205-pound defensive back spent the majority of the 2024 season on the Pats’ active roster, appearing in 14 games, playing both defense and special teams, recording 10 total tackles and a fumble recovery. New England released him in roster cuts ahead of the 2025 NFL season. He recently spent about a week on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.

OG Mason Brooks

A former undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss in 2023, Brooks has spent time with the Washington Commanders, Indianapolis Colts, and, most recently, the Miami Dolphins. The 6-foot-6 and 315-pound offensive guard also played for the DC Defenders in the United Football League (UFL).

OG Braeden Daniels

A former fourth-round draft pick out of Utah in 2023, Daniels is still just 25 years old. He’s spent time with six different NFL clubs, most recently with the Miami Dolphins, who poached him from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad last January. He spent practically the entire 2025 NFL season on the Dolphins’ practice squad before being released in early December.

WR Luke Grimm

Fans of the Kansas Jayhawks will be familiar with Grimm, who played five seasons in Lawrence. He recorded 177 receptions for 2,472 yards and 23 touchdowns in 53 career games played. He went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, but caught on with the Los Angeles Chargers. He spent the majority of the 2025 NFL season on L.A.’s practice squad before being released in early December. Grimm had a 66-yard punt return touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason.

DT Marcus Harris

A former seventh-round draft pick by the Houston Texans in 2024, Harris has bounced around a few different clubs over the past two seasons in the NFL. He spent the bulk of 2024 on practice squads for the Texans and the New England Patriots. In the 2025 offseason, he joined the Buffalo Bills, but he didn’t survive 53-man roster cutdowns. The 6-foot-3 and 286-pound defensive tackle spent a few weeks on the practice squad with the Texans in December of 2025, but was recently released just days before Christmas.

LB Clarence Hicks

An undersized pass-rusher who just had a tremendous season with the Calgary Stampeders, where he recorded 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 28 total tackles, and was his club’s winner for the CFL’s most outstanding defensive player award. Hicks is 27 years old, listed at 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, and played collegiately at UTSA. He spent the 2022 NFL offseason with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent, but hasn’t played in the NFL since.

WR Kobe Hudson

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds, Hudson enjoyed a productive collegiate career at both Auburn and UCF, recording 181 receptions for 2,961 yards and 23 touchdowns over five seasons and 60 games played. He went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and caught on with the Carolina Panthers during the offseason. He was waived during 53-man roster cuts and didn’t catch on with another NFL team at any point during the 2025 NFL season.

TE Zack Kuntz

A towering tight end at 6-foot-8 and 255 pounds, Kuntz was a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the New York Jets out of Old Dominion. He’s played just 13 NFL snaps after being promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad in 2023 and 2024 with New York. He was waived during 53-man roster cuts in 2025 and has yet to catch on with another club.

QB Jordan McCloud

An undersized dual-threat quarterback at 6-foot and 205 pounds, McCloud had stints at South Florida, Arizona, James Madison, and Texas State in college. The 26-year-old threw for over 10,000 yards, 88 touchdowns, and 38 interceptions in his collegiate career. He also rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. McCloud went undrafted in 2025 and had a rookie minicamp tryout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

RB ShunDerrick Powell

Chiefs fans should be familiar with Powell because he took a top-30 visit with the team ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Listed at 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Powell had three consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons to end his collegiate career at Central Arkansas, including 1,341 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2024, averaging 121.9 yards per game.

QB Austin Reed

An undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky in 2024, Reed caught on with the Chicago Bears. In his rookie season, he completed 12 of 16 passes for 123 yards and one touchdown during the preseason. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad in Chicago, but was released during 53-man roster cuts this year and never caught on with another club.

T Corey Stewart

A former Purdue Boilermaker and Ball State Cardinal, Stewart went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, catching on with the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent. He was waived during 53-man roster cuts and didn’t catch on with another team during the course of the season. As a senior at Purdue, the 6-foot-6 and 316-pound O-Lineman started 11 games at left tackle and allowed just a single sack in over 300 pass-blocking snaps.
