Former Vol who left Tennessee after the 2024 season gets revenge in the College Football Playoff
A former Vol was responsible for a huge play in Miami’s win over Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.
A former Vol who left Rocky Top following the 2024 season earned some revenge in the College Football Playoff on Wednesday night.
Former Tennessee Vols safety Jakobe Thomas transferred to the Miami Hurricanes this past spring.
And Thomas quickly proved to be an important pickup for Miami.
The former Vol recovered a fumble in Miami’s season-opening win over Notre Dame (a win that was very important for the Hurricanes).
Jakobe Thomas earned some revenge in the College Football Playoff
The final game that Thomas played in a Tennessee uniform came last season in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
Thomas made one tackle in the Vols’ 42-17 loss to the Buckeyes in late 2024.
That loss was on Thomas’ mind on Wednesday night when Miami took on Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the playoff.
Thomas sealed the 24-14 win for the Hurricanes with a game-ending interception.
After the win, Thomas posted a photo from the Vols’ loss to Ohio State on his Instagram story with the caption, “Shoutout to my orange fam.”

Thomas, who led Miami with seven tackles in the win over Ohio State, is a player that Tennessee certainly could’ve used this season. The former Vol, though, has made the most of his opportunity with Miami. And now he’s just one win away from playing for a national championship.
