The Ole Miss Rebels won the game of the year in their 39-34 Sugar Bowl victory over Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. None of it would have been possible without the unfathomable heroics of Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

There are still important games to be played for Ole Miss in the best season of the program’s history. Pete Golding and the Rebels still need to focus on defeating Miami and then the winner of Oregon vs. Indiana. Still, for now, Ole Miss fans can simply celebrate one of the most incredible games and best performances from any player in the history of the program.

Ole Miss started slow, but Trinidad Chambliss still flashed early

Ole Miss and Georgia both got off to slow starts offensively, with only six combined points being scored in the first quarter. However, even when the going was still tough for the Rebels early in the game, Trinidad Chambliss flashed some of his ridiculous talent (as you can see on the absurd throw in post below). He started heating up with a beautiful deep ball to De’Zhaun Stribling that inevitably set up Ole Miss’ first touchdown, but he was just getting started.

Trinidad led the wildest drive in Ole Miss football history

After both offenses started getting hot later in the game it was clear that every drive needed to end in points, preferably a touchdown. Chambliss clearly understood the assignment. As the fourth quarter was just kicking off, Chambliss strung together two plays that will only go down in the stat sheet as four-yard and eight-yard completions, but they were far more than that. First, Chambliss avoided ridiculous pressure, flushed out to his left, then flicked the ball forward (backhanded) to Kewan Lacy for a clutch gain. The very next play, it was third down and seven. Chambliss had to scramble and avoid pressure all the way back to his own goal line (from the original 28-yard line of scrimmage) and connected with Lacy again. First down Ole Miss.

Chambliss wasn’t done after those two ridiculous plays either. The very next play, Chambliss was forced to roll to his right and found Harrison Wallace III more than 40 yards down the field for a field-flipping explosive. Ole Miss would end up scoring a touchdown on the drive after four more plays on a six-yard rushing touchdown by running back Kewan Lacy. It was an insane drive in the highest pressure moment of the entire season. Unbelievable work from Chambliss and the Ole Miss offense.

Trinidad Chambliss’ phenomenal accuracy late in the game sealed thw in over Georgia

As the game approached it’s end, Chambliss just kept getting better. Georgia fumbled on a Suntarine Perkins sack of Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton. Two plays later, Chambliss went for the jugular. First, he converted a quick first down to tight end Dae’Quan Wright. Then, before Georgia could even catch their breath, Chambliss tossed a beautiful outside shoulder fade to Harrison Wallace III for another touchdown, giving Ole Miss their biggest lead of the game at 34-24.

Chambliss and the offense struggled on the next drive, which allowed Georgia to tie the ball game at 34. However, Chambliss got right back into the zone with phenomenal accuracy on the next and final Ole Miss drive of the game. He found wide receiver Cayden Lee deep down field on an incredible pass, but it was knocked loose by a big hit from Georgia defensive back, Zion Branch. Then with the game on the line, third down and five, 32 seconds to go on the game clock, Chambliss uncorked another perfect deep ball to wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling. That play set up the game-winning field goal, sending Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Trinidad Chambliss is undoubtedly an Ole Miss Rebels legend now after that wildly magical performance against the Georgia Bulldogs. 362 yards passing. two touchdowns. 13 yards rushing. Clutch play after clutch play. Unbelievable play from the former Division-II quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss.

Again, Ole Miss still has to take care of business for two more games if they want a national championship, but if Chambliss plays half as good as he just did against Georgia they’re going to be in prime position to win it all.
