It’s Week 18, and the Detroit Lions have nothing to play for as a team, but at least one player has something to play for, and that is defensive lineman Roy Lopez. He is one sack away from hitting one of the incentives on his deal.

Roy Lopez can earn an extra $250,000 with one sack against the Bears

It’s not a ton of money by NFL standards, but that’s a house by everyone elses sandards. Lopez has a real chance to get it done. He’s been playing a lot more lately, averaging something like 30 snaps a game. He got his second sack against the Rams just a few weeks ago.

There are two more incentives that Lopez can hit in this game, but they’ll be very hard to accomplish. If he plays 56 snaps, he gets an extra $150,000 for playing 40% of the Lions’ snaps this year. If he can somehow go off and get three sacks in this game and end the season with five, he’ll earn an extra $500,000. That’s pretty hard to pull off. Let’s see if he just gets one more sack.

In terms of other Lions who have hit incentives already, here’s what that looks like:

  • Derrick Barnes: Earned $500,000 for playing 80% of the Lions’ snaps on defense
  • D.J. Reader: Earned $200,000 for playing 50% of the Lions’ snaps on defense
  • Amik Robertson: Earned $400,000 for hitting two incentives. He played 60% of the Lions’ snaps and 75% of the Lions’ snaps
  • Alex Azalone: Earned $750,000 for hitting two incenives. He played 80% of the snaps and then 85%.
