Welcome to Week 18. It is hot seat season for coaches and executives across the NFL — there is no shortage of speculation about the future for a number of head coaches across the league. That does, to some degree, include the Baltimore Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a well-established staple of the organization and this year’s disappointment shouldn’t be considered exclusively a let down on Harbaugh’s part.

But the reporting does seem to offer some indication that the state of affairs in Baltimore is without some issues. ESPN’s Adam Schefter took to the pre-game broadcasts on Sunday and conducted a full rundown of coaching situations to watch across the league. His intel included insight on where things stand between the Ravens and John Harbaugh.

A new report seems to suggest something is amiss in Baltimore with Ravens head coach John Harbaugh

“That seems to be a situation right now that is up in the air — where both sides will meet and discuss, after the season, what they want to do and what direction they want to go. He is the second longest-tenured coach in the National Football League. 18 years. And I think there should be more conversation about Harbaugh, less about (Mike) Tomlin. But we’re still leaning ‘safe’ right now on John Harbaugh until those conversations occur and we’ll see what comes out of them this offseason.”

Okay then. Needless to say, Schefter’s reporting on the status of Harbaugh in Baltimore seems to indicate that something is afoot. Not necessarily ‘imminent’, but certainly afoot. Whether that comes from the disappointing nature of the 2025 season, the future of the organization, the team’s vision with (or without) QB Lamar Jackson amid another looming contract negotiation, and so on.

The timeline for the Ravens to hold these conversations could start as early as tonight. Logic would seem to indicate that the longer the Ravens continue to play, the easier the conversation will be — so long as whatever Schefter is inferring is tied to the team’s performance this season.

John Harbaugh’s coaching career with the Baltimore Ravens

  • 180-112 record (0.616 win percentage)
  • 13-11 postseason record
  • 18 seasons, two losing seasons (could be three with loss on SNF versus Steelers)
