A transfer quarterback that would’ve made some sense for the Tennessee Vols came off the board on Sunday.

James Madison transfer quarterback Alonza Barnett has reportedly committed to UCF.

Barnett, who attended the same high school in North Carolina as Vols five-star quarterback signee Faizon Brandon, passed for 2,806 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2025. He also rushed for 589 yards and 15 touchdowns.

What is Tennessee’s transfer quarterback plan?

The Vols are almost certainly going to add a transfer quarterback to the roster this offseason to pair with Brandon and rising redshirt freshman George MacIntyre.

But so far, Tennessee hasn’t been seriously connected to any transfer quarterbacks, though it’s believed it has had some conversations with quarterbacks.

It’s possible Tennessee is waiting for clarity on whether Joey Aguilar, who started all 13 games for the Vols in 2025, will be granted an additional season of eligibility.

It’s also possible that Tennessee is waiting to see what happens with Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, who could potentially transfer if he doesn’t declare for the 2026 NFL Draft.

For now, the Vols’ main focus appears to be on transfer defenders. On Sunday, Tennessee landed a commitment from Kansas State transfer safety Qua Moss.
