Pittsburgh Steelers just dealt the Baltimore Ravens another loss following Sunday night’s AFC North Championship game
Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers just got the last laugh over John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens.
The Pittsburgh Steelers left Sunday night as victors of the AFC North, punching their ticket to the playoffs and putting an end to all the questions about the future of the franchise, or at least for a week.
However, not only did the Steelers send the Ravens home with a losing season. They changed the face of that franchise forever after Baltimore made a move that many thought was possible, but few actually predicted.
Ravens part ways with head coach John Harbaugh
If you really sit back and think about it, had the Ravens made that field goal, there is a very good shot that we are sitting here at this very moment, talking about the same thing with Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Instead, John Harbaugh’s last play as head coach of the Ravens will be watching his rookie field goal kicker miss a 44-yarder that could have sent his team to the playoffs. The Ravens, second only to the Steelers, had the longest tenured head coach in the NFL before firing Harbaugh.
The two franchises and the coaches that faced each for the past 17 seasons were very alike. They believed in the same principles and team-building philosophies, and until Tuesday evening, they stood by their head man through thick and thin.
Now Mike Tomlin is the lone man standing in the AFC North. The Bengals don’t look to be moving on from Zac Taylor, but they already moved off Marvin Lewis during their tenure, and the Browns head coaching job has been a revolving door yet again following the firing of Kevin Stefanski.
The time may come when the Steelers and Mike Tomlin find themselves in a similar situation. That time may be as soon as this time next week, following what happens on the Monday night playoff game against the Houston Texans.
But for now, the Steelers and Mike Tomlin are the ones left standing, and the ones who keep fighting.
