The Buffalo Bills once again find themselves shorthanded heading into a pivotal matchup. With the playoff matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars looming, head coach Sean McDermott provided some pivotal updates regarding the team.

Fortunately, quarterback Josh Allen has been a full participant, giving the fan base an extra reason to celebrate. It goes without saying, but as long as No. 17 is on the field for Buffalo, the team should like their chances of walking into Jacksonville and pulling out the victory.

Nevertheless, the latest update from McDermott is a worrying one in that team captain and linebacker Terrel Bernard will be unable to go for the contest. Adding to the inactive list is safety Damar Hamlin, who just had his 21-day practice window opened after coming off the injured reserve, outside of that was what was already known in that cornerback Maxwell Hairston also will be unavailable.

An encouraging update from Sean McDermott

While the head coach spent the morning talking with WGR550 on the players that would be out of the contest, when he spoke with the media, he gave an encouraging update on defensive tackle Ed Oliver. Oliver had torn his biceps and has been out indefinitely. Not only that, but McDermott also provided an important update on tight end Dalton Kincaid, who was limited in consecutive practices.

For Oliver, McDermott shared that “it’s not out of the question” for him to return to practice next week if the team is able to advance. He’s been on the injured reserve since October and getting him back for the playoffs would give the defense a huge boost at the perfect time. The possibility is open, though maybe unlikely at this point.

For Kincaid, it was more just confirmation from McDermott. He said that the talented tight end would not have a designation heading into the game, meaning that quarterback Josh Allen will have one of the most dangerous weapons in the league at his disposal on Sunday.

If Buffalo is going to survive the attrition and make a real run in January, it will have to start the same way it always does, with Allen elevating those around him and the next wave of contributors stepping up in the spotlight. The Bills may be shorthanded once again, but with allen under center and key reinforcements potentially on the horizon, BUffalo still has more than enough belife and firepower to make some noise in Jacksonville.
