Bills’ offseason swing is blowing up in their faces after an emergency injury update 24 hours before playoff game vs. Jaguars

Josh Palmer has been… not great since joining Buffalo. A frustrating injury update to say the least.

On Saturday, the team announced that wide receiver Josh Palmer would be ruled out with an ankle injury. A frustrating update for a player who can’t seem to stay on the field after so much offseason promise.

Buffalo spent some big money to bring in Palmer, and it’s safe to say that he’s left much to be desired with his performance. The three-year, $36 million deal made waves in March, with fans hoping that quarterback Josh Allen would be given a potential deep-threat option down the field.

While it was exciting at the time, those feelings have quickly faded.

Josh Palmer has had an injury-riddled, underperforming season for Buffalo

He’s played in 12 games with 22 receptions for 303 yards and no touchdowns. A swing and a miss from Brandon Beane. Injuries are inevitable, and while we’re sure that Palmer wishes he had done better this season as well, not having a key weapon for Allen in a must-win game is infuriating. You spend money for difference makers to make an impact in key moments, and he’s just been unavailable.

“Awful signing,” one user wrote. Another said, “fire brandon beane.” It didn’t end there, with more of a direct call to the team from another user, “Trade Palmer, trade Samuel, Trade Coleman.”

With Palmer out, the team will most likely play Keon Coleman, who has had his own frustrations from the fanbase for both on-field performances and off-field issues. Injuries have continued to mount, with a lot of question marks heading into Sunday.

Several players already ruled out for Sunday vs. Jaguars

The Buffalo Bills were already going to be shorthanded against the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach Sean McDermott ruled out linebacker Terrel Bernard, cornerback Maxwell Hairston, and safety Damar Hamlin.

Hamlin’s 21-day practice window was just opened, and it was unlikely he would play. Hairston suffered an injury late in the win over the New York Jets, with McDermott quickly sharing it would be unlikely that he would play. Bernard has been battling through injuries all season, though his injury is a little worrisome when you consider that his counterpart, Shaq Thompson, is questionable for Sunday.

Bills are waiting on a few key pieces for Sunday

Fortunately, Buffalo will give fans some of the answers they have been waiting for on Saturday. With running back Ty Johnson being a little banged up, along with kicker Matt Prater, the practice squad elevations coming up will be a telling sign of where the team sits health-wise. Johnson is regarded as the best third-down back in football according to Allen and Prater’s efficiency, even at 41-years old, has been impressive to say the least. Ultimately, Buffalo will hope to have both pieces available.

All that’s left to do is wait. Palmer’s lack of availability just adds another layer to the upcoming showdown against Jacksonville. Not being at 100% health-wise on offense wasn’t the way fans, or the team, were hoping the week would shake out. Here’s hoping the team provides some good news within the next 48 hours; the Bills Mafia could deserve some.
