Bills Inactive Report: Offense gets hit with brutal news just moments before kickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars
The official inactive report answers a lot of questions for Buffalo heading into pivotal showdown against the Jaguars.
The Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars are set to face off in a thrilling AFC showdown. It’s the battle of the No. 1 rushing offense against the No. 1 rushing defense, with running back James Cook hungry to get on the field and showcase his abilities.
There were a few names the Bills Mafia were keeping their eyes on ahead of the contest, as linebacker Shaq Thompson and running back Ty Johnson were questionable for Sunday. The team didn’t elevate kicker Matthew Wright for the contest, meaning Matt Prater is good to go. Buffalo elevated running back Frank Gore Jr. and defensive end Andre Jones Jr. for Sunday while signing linebacker Baylon Spector from the practice squad to the active roster.
Johnson showed up in a walking boot, a clear sign that he would be inactive.
Buffalo Bills inactive report for wildcard matchup against Jacksonville Jaguars
90 minutes before kickoff, the fanbase got some much-needed answers. The official inactive report for Buffalo includes Johnson, linebcaker Terrel Bernard, cornerback Maxwell Hairston, offensive lineman Tylan Grable, tight end Keleki Latu, defensive back Darnell Savage, and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi.
The biggest name without a doubt missing is that of Ty Johnson. He’s been regarded as the “best third-down back in football,” and his absence will be felt in the contest.
On Friday, head coach Sean McDermott had already ruled out Bernard, safety Damar Hamlin, and Hairston. Bernard is a significant blow for the defense, but the other two were already rumored not to be able to go.
Hairston suffered an injury late in the win over the New York Jets, and McDermott shared almost immediately that he was unlikely to play. Hamlin just had his 21-day practice window opened, coming off the injured reserve, meaning it was unlikely that he would suit up for the contest.
What’s more, on Saturday, the team not only ruled out wide receiver Josh Palmer for the contest, but has since ruled him out for the season. He has been placed on injured reserve, meaning his season is over. It was a frustrating update for a player who’s just been unable to stay healthy in 2025.
All eyes are on Josh Allen for Sunday’s matchup against the Jaguars
Regardless of who is on the injury report, the biggest name to keep an eye out for is that of quarterback Josh Allen. As long as No. 17 is on the field, the team has a chance to win. What’s more, he’s been one of the very best playoff quarterbacks of all-time, and the fanbase is hoping for another monster performance if the team wants to win their first playoff game since the early 1990’s.
Allen was dealing with a foot injury that began in the win over the Cleveland Browns, but has since been a full participant in practice and will be 100% for Sunday’s contest. Ian Rapoport shared on Sunday that Allen is dealing with an old bone issue in his foot, but is at no risk of further reinjury.
At the end of the day, Buffalo’s path forward is simple. If Allen is healthy and playing like himself, the Bills can overcome injuries, matchups, and history. Sunday presents another opportunity for No. 17 to remind everyone why Buffalo believes this run can be different.
