Sooners were just a part of one of the more weird situations of the transfer portal era, but it makes sense now
The Sooners are working to bring him back.
Oklahoma Sooners fans may have felt their heartbeat spike briefly on Monday, but the anxiety faded quickly.
Sooners edge rusher PJ Adebawore may have had the shortest stint in the transfer portal ever. He entered on Monday, then reportedly withdrew his name less than two minutes later.
Why Adebawore entered and pulled his name from the transfer portal
According to SoonerScoop’s George Stoia, Adebawore and his representatives have been discussing a contract for him to facilitate his return to the Sooners, where he really wants to be. However, he obviously wants more money, which is fine. The Sooners don’t want to lose him, and other insiders and reporters such as On3’s Pete Nakos expect Adebawore to stay with OU.
The Sooners are fired up for Adebawore to step into a starting spot in 2026, or at the very least to battle for it. After serving as a backup last season, he proved his value, stepping up huge when R Mason Thomas was hurt. The guys ahead of him combined for an epic 1,325 snaps, but two of those powerhouses are off to the 2026 NFL Draft, opening the door wide for Adebawore.
He wrapped up 2025 with 10 pressures in 137 pass rush snaps plus a sack. Don’t be fooled by the stats — he’s playing in a defense loaded with talent. It’s tough to rack up gaudy numbers when 24 sacks are split between your top four guys.
Plus, when he hit the field, he lined up opposite Taylor Wein — one of the most electric edge rushers in college football — who finished with 36 pressures and seven sacks. Adebawore is primed for greatness, and he knows his worth.
He’s poised to become OU’s next star alongside Wein in 2026. With his long arms, vicious pass rush, and eye-popping twitch for his size, he’s a nightmare for opposing offenses, and he’s just getting started. There’s still quite a bit to develop there. He’s raw, but the potential is scary.
Not to mention, the Sooners need someone around to help young guys like Jake Kreul learn the ropes. This edge group will be so fun to watch in 2026.
