NFL insider grants every Eagles fan’s wish with latest report about future of the team
Adam Schefter has the latest on the Eagles after their wild-card loss.
The Philadelphia Eagles were sent packing far earlier than this time last year during the NFL playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers just pulled off an upset on the back of some timely offensive success and a dominant defensive outing against the Eagles’ offense.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and head coach Nick Sirianni, who appointed Patullo as the heir apparent to Kellen Moore as offensive play caller, have both been under plenty of heat this season due to the Eagles’ inconsistency on that side of the ball. Now, big changes may lie ahead for Philly.
Staff changes are reportedly coming to the Eagles this offseason
NFL insider Adam Schefter had a revealing report on Monday, following Philly’s loss to the 49ers. Schefter unveiled that the expectation around the NFL is that the Eagles are set to make some significant changes, beginning with firing offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.
“When you speak to people around the league, they expect there to be mass changes there to jump-start the offense,” Schefter said via “Get Up” on Monday morning. “So, you’re looking at a new offensive coordinator next year – that’s the expectation there across the league.”
This performance was another frustrating outing for both the pass and run game for Philadelphia. The Eagles started out strong, but, as with prior outcomes, they struggled mightily down the stretch. When it mattered most, both the play-calling and the players’ performance let down the rest of the team and their fans.
The Eagles’ offense averaged 9.5 points per game in the second half of games this season. That is an alarming statistic when you consider the amount of talent both in the trenches and at skill positions for the unit. Simply unacceptable.
Philadelphia’s front office truly has no choice at this point. While Patullo was in the fold for the team’s Super Bowl run last year, it is crystal clear that calling the plays for an offense was out of his depth this year.
Sirianni did not effectively replace Moore, and the front office must step in to make that decision this offseason, including a lengthy interview process and an overall search for a new OC. We will see if the Eagles prove Schefter correct and make impactful changes to their coaching staff sooner rather than later.
