Aaron Rodgers reveals that the Pittsburgh Steelers could be playing the quarterback waiting game all over again this offseason
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t know his next move, but he does know he’s not ready to make any emotional decisions.
Aaron Rodgers came with a lot of noise last offseason. Many in the national and even local media questioned the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision to hitch their wagon to a quarterback who would turn 42 years old and was less than two years removed from an Achilles tear.
Well, even though the Steelers came up short and were utterly embarrassed by the Texans, losing their seventh playoff game in a row, the man wearing No. 8 in black and gold was the least of the Steelers’ problems. So will he be back? That we don’t know, even if we do know that Rodgers will take his time to make a decision.
Aaron Rodgers won’t make an emotional decision about his future
“I mean, I’m not going to make any emotional decisions,” said Rodgers after the game via the Steelers YouTube channel. “Disappointed, obviously, such a fun year. A lot of adversity, but a lot of fun. Been a great year overall, my life in the last year, and this is a really good part of that, coming here and being a part of this team. So it’s disappointing to be sitting here with the season over.”
Rodgers finished the 2025 season throwing for over 3,300 yards and tossing 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions en route to a 10-6 record as the starter for Pittsburgh. For most of the season, similar to Monday night, even when the offense struggled, it wasn’t because of No. 8.
It’s not a stretch to say that he was the best quarterback the Steelers had since Ben Roethlisberger, even if that’s not saying much. So what comes next for Rodgers?
Aaron Rodgers needs time to decide about his future
“Just get away and then have kind of have the right conversations,” added Rodgers when asked what he plans to do.
Remember, that was very similar to what he said last offseason, when the Steelers sat waiting for him to make his decision just before mandatory minicamp.
Rodgers said at various points throughout the offseason, preseason, and even during the year that he anticipated 2025 to be his final year. In recent weeks, he left the door open for a possible return, and the Steelers would welcome him back with open arms.
However, with questions about the head coaching position and the franchise’s future, the Steelers may not be able to wait all offseason for a quarterback who will turn 43 this year.
Time will tell what Rodgers decides.
