One of the Tennessee Vols’ heroes from the program’s 2024 College World Series championship team has reportedly retired from pro baseball.

According to multiple media outlets, former Vols outfielder Hunter Ensley is on MLB’s voluntarily retired list.

Ensley was signed by the Kansas City Royals last July. He played 15 games for the Quad Cities River Bandits (the former Vol slashed .163/.229/.163).

Ensley will be best remembered among Vols fans for the incredible catch he made against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the College World Series in Omaha.

Another angle of Ensley’s catch shows just how incredibly difficult of a play it was.

Ensley even got a huge tattoo to commemorate Tennessee’s 2024 national championship.

Ensley may not be destined for a long MLB career, but he’ll always be a national champion.
