A potential big-time quarterback solution for the Tennessee Vols presented itself on Friday.

Kind of.

A report emerged from CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer on Friday afternoon that Duke Blue Devils star quarterback Darian Mensah could be entering the portal before it closes this week.

Not long after Hummer’s report, news broke that Mensah is indeed entering the portal.

Mensah will instantly be a top transfer target for quarterback-needy teams after he passed for 3,973 yards, 34 touchdowns, and six interceptions this past season.

Tennessee, Miami, and Ole Miss are among the programs that could use a transfer quarterback.

Tennessee reportedly isn’t recruiting Darian Mensah

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Tennessee is not recruiting Mensah.

It’s unclear why Tennessee isn’t showing interest in Mensah, but it could have something to do with the fact that Duke, according to Thamel, still holds Mensah’s NIL rights — which could make recruiting him tricky.

It’s unknown how Mensah’s contract with Duke will impact his next move (these are unprecedented times, so we’ll just have to see how it all plays out).

Miami is the most likely suitor for Mensah, and if there’s a buyout that has to be paid to Duke, the total bill for the transfer quarterback could end up getting dangerously close to eight figures.
