Kevin Stefanski may end up regretting his quick decision to take job with the Falcons after being fired by Browns due to latest development
The former Browns head coach acted quick and it may have cost him a better job.
There are 10 NFL head coaching spots being filled and the latest spot opened up on Monday morning.
The Cleveland Browns acted the morning after the regular season ended to move on from Kevin Stefanski. Cleveland is in search of its next head coach while Stefanski has already landed as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Stefanski’s decision to join the Falcons as early as it came may have been the wrong move, or at least one he made too early.
The Buffalo Bills’ opening would have been a better fit for Kevin Stefanski
After losing to the Denver Broncos on Saturday, the Bills opted to move on from head coach Sean McDermott on Monday. Buffalo not only impacts the Browns as another top job is open — it makes one that Stefanski didn’t invite that he potentially could have.
Stefanski took a good job opening with the Falcons. Atlanta has plenty of young talent and an up-and-coming offense. The biggest question around Atlanta is at quarterback with Michael Penix Jr. — and if he can be the long-term answer there. Walking into the job in Buffalo, there are no worries at quarterback with Josh Allen.
A franchise quarterback trumps everything else on a football team and having one of those is at the top of importance. Stefanski was never able to have a long-term answer at quarterback in Cleveland. The one swing the Browns took after Baker Mayfield was trading for Dehsuan Watson, and we all know how that went.
It’s not to say that Stefanski would have gotten the job in Buffalo, but he surely would have gotten an interview. With a foot in the door, there’s a possibility that he could have landed what is a better job with the Falcons.
There may end up being a bit of regret there in the end.
