Kansas City Chiefs will have more boots on the ground at the Senior Bowl than usual — and one decision could tip a coming promotion
The Kansas City Chiefs will have two assistant coaches working as position coaches at the Senior Bowl.
The Panini Senior Bowl is just around the corner, and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to have more boots on the ground than they normally would.
The Senior Bowl officially announced its coaching staff on Monday, with young coaches across the league getting opportunities to develop their skills alongside the 2026 NFL Draft class. Typically, the Chiefs don’t have an opportunity to send coaches to All-Star games because they’re in the midst of a deep playoff run. With the team out of the playoff race entirely this season, Kansas City took the opportunity to send two coaches to the Senior Bowl to work directly with players.
The Chiefs have long found talent in Mobile, Alabama, with DT Omarr Norman-Lott, WR Jalen Royals, LB Jeffrey Bassa, and RB Brashard Smith among the latest crop of additions in 2025. The team could again look to the All-Star game to bolster the roster for the 2026 NFL season, and they’ll get a behind-the-scenes look with some coaches in attendance.
Senior Bowl may have tipped off Chiefs’ wide receiver coaching plans after Connor Embree’s firing
Chiefs assistant QB coach Daniel Williams is slated to coach the wide receivers for the National Team under head coach Clint Hurtt (Philadelphia Eagles). Williams has been a member of the Chiefs’ offensive coaching staff for seven seasons, including spending the last three seasons as assistant quarterbacks coach. As a coaching intern during the 2019 NFL season, Williams worked with tight ends and quarterbacks, but this opportunity is his first foray into coaching wide receivers. His father, Ted Williams, was a tight end coach under Andy Reid in Philadelphia.
Could Williams perhaps be the Chiefs’ choice for wide receiver coach in 2026 now that Connor Embree has been relieved of his duties? Kansas City has yet to announce that change, but the fact that Williams is working with wide receivers at the Senior Bowl certainly suggests that his focus as a coach may shift in 2026. He has been working closely with David Girardi and Patrick Mahomes for years now, so there seems to be a level of trust that could weigh heavily into such a decision.
No matter what his future holds, Williams will also get an up-close-and-personal look at several players the Chiefs could target early in the 2026 NFL Draft.
National Team wide receivers
- Ole Miss WR Harrison Wallace III
- Wisconsin WR Vinny Anthony II
- Baylor WR Josh Cameron
- Indiana WR Elijah Sarratt
- Louisville WR Caullin Lacy
- Texas Tech WR Reggie Virgil
- Texas Tech WR Caleb Douglas
- SMU WR Jordan Hudson

Chiefs defensive quality control coach Chris Orr to coach American Team linebackers
A rising coach in the Chiefs’ organization is defensive quality control coach Chris Orr, who joined the team this last season after coaching linebackers at Jackson State and interning through the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship in 2024. He’ll be coaching the linebackers for the American Team under head coach Joel Thomas (New Orleans Saints). Orr was a first-year defensive quality control coach with Kansas City in 2025, working with the inside and outside linebackers alongside Brendan Daly and Matt House.
While Orr’s presence and coaching responsibilities aren’t as eyebrow-raising as his counterpart on the National Team, he’ll get a look at some draft prospects in a position group that could see some departures in the 2026 NFL offseason.
American Team linebackers
- Arizona State LB Keyshaun Elliott
- Arkansas LB Xavian Sorey
- BYU LB Jack Kelly
- Pitt LB Kyle Louis
