No charges will be filed for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison, and that clears things up for the future.
No charges will be filed against Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison for an incident on Jan. 12 in Tampa, Florida.
Addison was arrested early that Monday morning on a trespassing charge at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and was released less than 12 hours later on a $500 cash bond.
This was the third legal issue Addison had faced during his NFL tenure, prompting many to call for a change. The latest news could stave off those calls for the time being.
Jordan Addison will not be charged for trespassing
Shortly after the arrest went public, Addison’s legal team released a statement saying that he would be exonerated.
“On Jordan’s behalf, his legal team has already initiated the investigation, identified witnesses, and we are reviewing the viability of a claim for false arrest. He looks forward to the legal process and upon full investigation, we are confident Mr. Addison will be exonerated.”
Addison’s attorney, Brian Pakett, also released a statement.
“As Mr. Addison’s agent has advised, from the very outset of this incident and arrest, Mr. Addison committed no legal wrong doing. We are thrilled that the truth was finally revealed and this poor man’s name was not besmirched any longer. I am thankful we were able to bring this to light as quickly as possible.”
It’s an important development for Addison, who reportedly is preparing a civil suit for the incident. That shouldn’t be a surprise, considering the attorney’s office declined to levy charges on Addison.
Addison’s future now has a little more clarity
Addison’s path forward is now much more certain for him and the Vikings. He has one year remaining on his rookie contract, and the fifth-year option needs to be decided within a few days of the NFL Draft.
It’s far from ideal that Addison was involved in this incident, but charges not being filed seem to make an extension more likely for him, which is good for the Vikings. You want to keep good football players, and Addison is certainly one.
His future is certainly still up in the air, but it feels clearer as we move into the offseason.
