Patriots’ Stefon Diggs takes an inadvertent shot at the Bills organization just moments after punching his ticket to the Super Bowl
Stefon Diggs played for the Buffalo Bills and couldn’t make it to the Super Bowl, but he made it with the Patriots.
The New England Patriots are back in the Super Bowl, which really pains me to say. It was supposed to be Buffalo’s year. With the strength of schedule and the return of the red helmets for the final game at Highmark Stadium, it had all the makings of a Hallmark classic before the year began.
Unfortunately, Buffalo shot itself in the foot on more than one occasion, and the Patriots took care of business. New England took the AFC East from Buffalo on its way to the organization’s 12th Super Bowl appearance.
What makes it even worse is that the team has a handful of former Bills players on the roster, including wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills had a messy breakup
Everyone is aware by now of how the Diggs situation ended in Buffalo. He was unhappy, and the team traded him to the Houston Texans, taking on mountains of dead cap space in the process. Diggs was electric in Buffalo, but the falling out might’ve been louder than his production on the field.
The Patriots’ veteran inadvertently took a shot at the Bills organization after the team’s win over the Denver Broncos, with Bills Mafia quickly pointing out what appears to be some shaded disrespect.
“Probably the best coach I’ve ever had,” Diggs said in reference to Mike Vrabel.
Oof, not a good look for former Bills head coach Sean McDermott. Hitting a man when he’s down isn’t fun. The Buffalo Bills have found their next head coach in Joe Brady after letting go of McDermott, who spent nine seasons with the organization.
Not only that, but Diggs appears to be rubbing a little salt in the wound after the Patriots took care of business in Denver, something Buffalo couldn’t thanks to a controversial decision by the referees late into the overtime period.
The whole Stefon Diggs drama feels like a bad breakup
All things considered, Vrabel deserves mountains of credit for what he has accomplished for the franchise. But with how quickly Diggs has forgotten his coaches and teammates during his time in Buffalo could cut deep in the hearts of the Bills Mafia.
It’s like seeing an ex-girlfriend that you’ve had so many great moments with start talking about how her new man is the best she’s ever been with, and no one in her past could come close.
For better or worse, this is the reality Buffalo now has to live with. Diggs is chasing a ring in a different uniform, saying all the right things for his new home, while the Bills are left searching for answers and a new voice to lead them forward.
