Myles Garrett has caught attention with a cryptic Instagram post following the Cleveland Browns’ unexpected decision to hire Todd Monken
Myles Garrett may or may not have weighed in on the hire of Todd Monken.
The Cleveland Browns shocked just about everyone yesterday when they named former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken their new head coach.
Monken was one of three finalists for the job, but the name that was attracting the least attention. The feeling was that the Browns would be choosing between defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and Los Angeles Rams’ Nate Scheelhaase.
Browns’ Myles Garrett makes a social media post that catches attention following Todd Monken’s hiring
Last night an Instagram story was posted on Garrett’s account of a photo of a Popeye’s worker sitting outside, appearing to be tired. The photo has become a universal meme that essentially means you’re worn out, at least that’s how it’s taken. Garrett posting hours after the Monken hire raised some eyebrows.
There’s a possibility here that Garrett wanted to see his defensive coordinator get the job. Multiple reports surfaced that members of the defense were pushing for Schwartz to get the job. For the Browns to hand the job to a 59-year-old first-time head coach over Schwartz may not sit well with members of the defense.
Myles Garrett’s previous trade request locked him into a huge deal
Following the 2024 season, Garrett attempted to get out of Cleveland by demanding a trade. The Browns never thought about trading Garrett and did not waver that he would not be moved.
Cleveland and Garrett came to an agreement on a four-year extension that pays him on average $40 million a season. The Browns would eat north of $41 million in dead cap for the 2026 season if they were to trade Garrett, according to Over The Cap.
Don’t expect a trade request to come again, I don’t believe his social media post relays that it is coming. Garrett’s likely just frustrated and has never shied away from giving little hints like this on social media.
