6 key players from the Cleveland Browns who are set to be free agents that Todd Monken may never get to coach
A look at six players from the Cleveland Browns who are set to hit free agency and may not return.
The Cleveland Browns’ hiring of Todd Monken to be the new head coach was a big box checked for the offseason.
Focus in Cleveland now has turned to building out a staff, and then roster shaping will begin. March will be a huge month for the future of the Browns with free agency.
Cleveland has several key free agents who either are starters or have started set to hit the market. While the Browns may bring back a few of these players, not all will have a chance to stick around for the beginning of the Monken era.
TE David Njoku
Njoku has been a strong part of the team and locker room for the past eight seasons. The former first-round pick looks like he may have lost a step in 2025, and is clearly the second-best tight end on this team now behind Harold Fannin Jr. Monken’s background with two tight ends in Baltimore makes it exciting for the possibility of Njoku returning, but he is set to hit free agency for the first time after a down 2025 season.
LG Joel Bitonio
Bitonio has contemplated retirement each of the past couple of offseasons and this may finally be the year he does it. The longtime starter for the Browns is a free agent, and it would be a surprise to see him suiting up anywhere else. If Bitonio still wants to play, the Browns should have him back for another season. The former Pro Bowler isn’t what he once was, but he’s still a very suitable starting guard with a ton of football played over 12 seasons.
C Ethan Pocic
Pocic went down with a serious injury near the end of the regular season and the Browns got a look at Luke Wypler starting. Cleveland could stand to upgrade the center position following Pocic’s injury. Pocic was a key free agent signing in 2022 for Cleveland.
RG Wyatt Teller
Cleveland’s handling of Teller near the end of the season may have put the writing on the wall here. The Browns may opt to go a cheaper route with someone like Tevin Jenkins to be their right guard. Teller is still a mauler in the run game but has never become a standout pass blocker.
CB Martin Emerson
Emerson is set to be a free agent after missing all of 2025 with an Achilles injury. The Browns trading for Tyson Campbell gives them a starter opposite Denzel Ward, so Emerson returning would be for depth purposes. Emerson is heading toward a one-year deal in free agency.
P Corey Bojorquez
Cleveland could move on from another member of their 2022 free agency class and have a new punter in 2026. Bojorquez has gotten a ton of work in over the last four seasons, including leading the league with 89 and 91 punts the last two years.
