Lions’ David Montgomery might have just teased what his immediate future looks like
Sure doen’t seem like a guy who is about to get traded
It’s been the top thing on the minds of Detroit Lions fans since about halfway through the season. What is going to happen with David Montgomery?
When Brad Holmes had his end-of-season presser, he talked about the possibility of trading the veteran running back, and everyone has been freaking out ever since. Well, Montgomery might have teased what his immediate future looks like on Wednesday, and you might like it.
David Montgomery certainly talked as if he were planning to be with the Detroit Lions in 2026
Montgomery was on Radio Row at the Super Bowl this week, talking with the NFL Network, and when asked about the Lions and their two-headed monster setup at running back, he said this.
“The really good teams have the rarity of having two really good guys (at running back), and Jahmyr is one of, if not the best, running backs in the league, and I believe I’m a damn good back myself,” Montgomery said. “Every chance I get to showcase myself, I will. I just think having us both together and us both being as selfless as we are, I think it’s really important. It’s something special to be a part of.”
Man, that sure doesn’t sound like a guy who is about to be traded or wants to be traded. That sounds like a guy who’s maybe been told that in Drew Petzing’s system, he will get his carries. Based on what Petzing did with James Connor, who plays a style similar to Montgomery’s, having Montgomery will only make his system more efficient.
This is not the end all be all, so don’t go partying in the streets yet. But things are looking up.

The smartest trade the Lions can make right now could solve a lot of problems now and in the future
This trade won’t bring a ton of headlines, but it would be great for the Lions.
