A former Tennessee Vols standout officially learned on Saturday that he’ll be active for the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seahawks running back Velus Jones Jr has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the big game on Sunday in Santa Clara.

Jones is a former Vols wide receiver who played for Tennessee in 2020 and 2021 after transferring from USC.

It’s been a tough road for Velus Jones in the NFL

Jones, a third-round selection by the Chicago Bears in the 2022 NFL Draft, has also spent time in his NFL career with the Jacksonville JaguarsCarolina Panthers, and the New Orleans Saints.

The former Tennessee wide receiver moved to running back early in his NFL career after failing to make an impact as a wide receiver.

Jones, who is also a kick returner, had just four carries for 32 yards during the 2025 regular season. He carried the ball six times for 10 yards in the Seahawks’ blowout win against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The former Vol will serve as depth for the Seahawks — there’s no guarantee he’ll see any playing time — but it’s still an amazing opportunity for Jones.

On the other side of the ball, former Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs will serve as the primary backup to Patriots starting quarterback Drake Maye.
