The rest of the league makes a mistake, and it gives the Seahawks the perfect result in a new 2026 NFL mock draft

A new 2026 NFL mock draft works out perfectly for the Super Bowl champion Seahawks, thanks to other teams overthinking a certain prospect.

The Seattle Seahawks sit on the throne as Super Bowl champions, and the rest of the league will begin trying to steal it away from them.

With the Seahawks now having a target on their back, they also need to attack the offseason with full force as they try to go back-to-back. It’s never easy to repeat as champions in the NFL, but this team is up for the challenge.

A new A to Z Sports NFL mock draft has the rest of the league making a mistake that works perfectly in the Seahawks’ favor.

Seahawks select Miami star pass rusher Akheem Mesidor in a new 2026 NFL mock draft

Akheem Mesidor will be 25 by the time the draft rolls around, but that should not scare off Seattle. He’s one of the most proven pass rushers in this class, and they could lose Boye Mafe in free agency. The defensive line wreaked havoc on Drake Maye’s Patriots in the Super Bowl win, so let’s make sure that strength remains a strength when it comes to personnel for Mike Macdonald.” – Adam Holt, A to Z Sports NFL Draft analyst

Miami’s defensive front led the charge for the Hurricanes to make a run to the National Championship. Projected top 10 pick Reuben Bain gets most of the attention for that, but his partner in crime, Akheem Mesidor, deserves his flowers as well. Mesidor was incredible this season and was an absolute game wrecker during the playoffs.

If you just watched his film, you’d think he’d also be in discussions to hear his name in the top half of the first round. Unfortunately, his already being 25 years old, along with some past injury concerns, has him as a fringe first-round prospect.

Mesidor projects as a rookie who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact, opposed to others who will need time to develop. Given his age, some will wonder how long his peak in the NFL will last, which will deter them from using a high pick on him.

He would be a perfect fit for the Seahawks, though, who could use another edge rusher in their rotation that can play right away. They are also in their Super Bowl window right now and won’t be as worried about a player’s long-term plan in their defense.

At pick 32, you aren’t usually going to find such a safe bet to be a day one contributor like Mesidor. His age is the reason some will pass on him, but it could also be the very reason the Seahawks land, in my opinion, the perfect prospect for what they need in the draft.

The rest of the league may overthink Mesidor, but they did the same thing with Sam Darnold, and the Seahawks saw that pay off in their favor. If the draft goes this way, I think the Seahawks can cash in on the mistakes of others yet again, and it could increase their odds of becoming back-to-back Super Bowl champions.

Miami EDGE Akheem Mesidor’s 2025 season stats

  • 12.5 sacks (led Miami and the ACC)
  • 17.5 tackles for loss
  • 63 total tackles
