Bills land big difference-maker for Josh Allen in trade proposal that would send shockwaves around the NFL
This would give Josh Allen and the offense exactly what they’ve been waiting for.
The Buffalo Bills have a lot of work to do this offseason to be ready to compete in 2026.
They have a new stadium they’ll be playing in, and a new head coach who’s already shaken things up at One Bills Drive with a plethora of coaching adjustments.
Perhaps the biggest offseason need for Buffalo, outside of some edge rushers, is boosting the wide receiver room. Far too many times in 2025, quarterback Josh Allen was forced to make something out of nothing with the help that he had on offense. From Keon Coleman to Curtis Samuel, the offense left much to be desired with the playmakers at hand.
That’s why the latest ESPN article should give fans a big reason to celebrate, as the trade proposals that fit for both teams have Buffalo trading for Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. Considering where Buffalo sits in the cap conversation, this move makes a ton of sense.
Buffalo linked to Brian Thomas Jr in latest ESPN article
The prediction article reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars are giving up Thomas Jr. and a fifth-round pick in exchange for Coleman and a first-round pick. The price is steep, absolutely, but this gives Allen and the offense a weapon they desperately need. While Buffalo is in cap hell, the Jaguars don’t have a first-round pick in the upcoming draft, which could make the deal too sweet to pass up on.
For Buffalo, they get rid of Coleman, who has struggled mightily since entering the league. Before the 2025 season, the talk of the offseason and training camp was that Coleman had ascended in the offense, and the league better get ready for his stardom to start shining. What resulted was Coleman being benched multiple times for disciplinary reasons, serving as a healthy scratch in a handful of games, and finishing the season with 38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns.
Not dissimilar, but Thomas Jr had sky-high expectations after a very successful rookie season. In his second year, under a Liam Coen offense, Thomas Jr. struggled. As ESPN reported, he didn’t have a single 100-yard game and only topped 70 receiving yards three times. He finished his sophomore season with 48 receptions for 707 yards and two touchdowns.
For Thomas Jr., it just became a crowded receiving room quickly. From the addition of Jakobi Meyers and the rise of Travis Hunter before his injury, along with Parker Washington being the team’s best wideout down the stretch, there just wasn’t enough football to go around.
Regardless of his production, Thomas Jr would be an asset
Despite his woes, Thomas Jr would join the Bills as the No. 2 option outside of Khalil Shakir and give the offense a much-needed boost. Working with Allen is a dream for most wide receivers, and Allen has proven in the past that he can really ascend those around him, and that’s exactly what would happen if Thomas Jr. were to join the Bills.
When you come to Buffalo, you become the best version of yourself.
As it currently sits, according to Over The Cap, Thomas Jr. would have a cap hit of $3.9 million in 2026 and a $4.6 million cap hit in 2027, which is exactly in the sweet spot with what Buffalo could afford after a few key restructures. Buffalo is a little hamstrung currently with the cap, but a few moves could easily get them to a spot where they could afford to bring in Thomas Jr.
In October, it was reported that the Jaguars were listening to trade talks for Thomas Jr, with the 2024 first-round pick looking for a new home as the trade deadline approached. Nothing ever materialized, but this could be the perfect time for Buffalo to capitalize.
Brian Thomas Jr. is still just scratching the surface of what he can be, and a change of scenery paired with an elite quarterback could unlock exactly what Jacksonville never fully tapped into.
The front office has preached urgency. This coaching staff was brought in to push the roster over the top. If Brandon Beane and company believe Thomas Jr. can be that missing explosive piece, then this is the moment to be bold.
The window is open. The quarterback is in his prime. Now it’s about giving him the weapons to finish the job.
