Bills positioned to sacrifice first-round pick in daring all-in move designed to maximize Josh Allen’s championship window
This would be Buffalo pushing all the chips to the center of the table.
The Buffalo Bills need to get quarterback Josh Allen some weapons in 2026; that much is for certain. While wide receiver Brandin Cooks joined the team late and made a huge impact, those around him outside of Khalil Shakir left much to be desired. Keon Coleman couldn’t stay on the field, and the team didn’t get much out of either Curtis Samuel or Josh Palmer.
Heading into 2026, the entire room might look different outside of Shakir, and it will all be for the better. Far too many times, Allen was forced to make something out of nothing, and it wound up hurting the team in the long run.
There are several big-name players available, but one in particular stands out. Buffalo has been linked as one of the top trading partners for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. Brown has been unhappy with the organization and hasn’t shied away from speaking out about it. He’s looking for a fresh start, and Buffalo could be exactly the place to help him turn things around.
Buffalo is named a top landing spot for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown
For this particular mock trade, the Buffalo Bills would get Brown in exchange for the 2026 first-round pick. It’s a hefty price to pay, but a true No. 1 wide receiver is hard to find. The crew at ESPN broke down why this deal makes sense for the Bills, and it’s one that the Bills Mafia can get behind.
“Whether general manager Brandon Beane thinks so or not, quarterback Josh Allen could really benefit from a true No. 1 wide receiver to stress defenses. And Brown’s 2026 contract is not an overpay financially for a top WR.
“It’s tough to imagine Buffalo getting a surefire, instant-impact playmaker at its current draft slot in the first round. So why not use it to get a veteran one? Is there a more win-now situation than Buffalo’s? As for the Eagles, a first-round pick for a 28-year-old wide receiver with only one year of guaranteed money left on his contract doesn’t sound like a bad return.” – ESPN writers
They hit the nail on the head, while several players at the draft might fall to Buffalo, who knows if they will truly be the difference-maker that they were drafted to be. This move gives Buffalo what they’ve been desperately waiting for, all while using the pick that they would’ve used to take a wide receiver anyway. It just makes too much sense.
Brown played exceptionally well in 2025 despite some issues with the organization
Brown is coming off yet another 1,000-yard receiving season, even with all the issues he had with the organization. He finished his 2025 campaign with 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. That kind of production in Buffalo is what the fan base dreams about.
To put it into perspective, the Bills’ top wide receiving option, Khalil Shakir, finished his 2025 campaign with 72 receptions for 719 yards and four touchdowns. No shade to Shakir, but it’s just the difference between a true No. 1 option and what they can bring to the offense.
If the Bills are serious about maximizing this Super Bowl window with Allen, this is the kind of bold swing that defines an era. Trading a first-round pick is uncomfortable, and it’s supposed to be.
Buffalo isn’t rebuilding; they’re chasing a Lombardi Trophy.
Pairing Allen with a proven, physical, alpha receiver like Brown instantly changes how defenses line up on Sundays. It takes pressure off Shakir, stabilizes the entire room, and gives Allen the kind of weapon he hasn’t consistently had since Stefon Diggs was in the building.
At some point, potential has to turn into production. A draft pick is hope, while Brown is a certainty.
For a team that’s been knocking on the door year after year, certainty might be exactly what pushes them through it.
