Saquon Barkley just told fans exactly what he thinks of the Eagles’ new offense under OC Sean Mannion
The Eagles must find answers to their offense in 2026 and beyond.
The offensive coordinator search for the Philadelphia Eagles was a lengthy one. It didn’t lack for some interesting twists and turns when it came to candidates for Nick Sirianni’s replacement for Kevin Patullo.
Ultimately, the Eagles landed on former Green Bay Packers assistant Sean Mannion as their new offensive play caller. One key piece to the unit and NFL superstar is looking forward to playing in Mannion’s offense next season.
Saquon Barkley praises new offensive scheme under Sean Mannion
When asked about the new staff and offensive scheme for the Eagles recently, Barkley didn’t hold back. He sounded nearly giddy to have some a different set of coaches and overall football minds leading the offensive roster that has Pro Bowl upside everywhere.
“I’m super excited about it,” Barkley told NFL Network this week. “I’m going on Year 9, which is crazy to say, and I’ve had a lot of different coaches and head coaches and been a part of a lot of systems. I don’t think I really came across a system like this. For me, it’s refreshing. You get something new. You get to learn something new.”
The refreshing part stood out from his statement on the swap. One complaint about the Eagles offense last season was that it felt stale. The stagnant nature of the play calling and overall scheme frustrated fans, and players’ production
A more modern approach from Mannion may be exactly what Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Barkley, and others need to prove that the unit isn’t nearly as lackluster as what we saw at times last season.
Mannion was previously the Packers’ quarterbacks coach and hasn’t spent too long coaching in the pros. He was playing QB in the NFL just a few years ago, actually.
He will most likely use a zone running scheme, as he spent his coaching time with Matt LaFleur. The latter is known for being a product of the Sean McVay coaching tree – which has turned into a trend for many young, bright offensive minds. Even with the inherited risk, it will be intriguing to see the changes that Mannion employs for the skill positions along Philly’s depth chart.
Barkley is ready to make the adjustment as smooth as possible.
