Things I think I know about the Philadelphia Eagles’ free agency plans after the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine
Howie Roseman has plenty to do this offseason to improve his roster.
The legal tampering period for this year’s free agency period around the NFL is less than a week away. For the Philadelphia Eagles, some of their notable free agent moves may be keeping some guys in the fold that hit the market.
With the combine behind us, the offseason plans for the Eagles are further taking shape. Here’s a look at some of the things that have been learned about the team’s plans for free agency over the past week in Indy.
Eagles will make bringing back Jaelan Phillips a priority
It has already been reported that Jaelan Phillips remains firmly on Philly’s radar this offseason. The edge rusher was acquired via trade during last season and made an immediate impact for Vic Fangio’s defense.
Philadelphia would need pass rush help in a massive way if Phillips signs elsewhere, and the Eagles already know he’s a scheme fit for them. This multi-year deal could be a costly one, but Howie Roseman wouldn’t be afraid of that commitment.
Reed Blankenship finds a new home during free agency
The Eagles will do all they can to keep intact some of their most notable free agent pieces. I am not sure that Blankenship resides in the group that makes a return, though. The Eagles are excited about the future of Andrew Mukuba, and safety is a position they could attack during the 2026 NFL Draft.
Eagles sign a veteran TE who can start, but it’s not Dallas Goedert
Philly got great production from the tight end position last year from Goedert, so this split would be a tough pill to swallow for fans. While there has been some recent chatter that the Eagles could extend Goedert to avoid further salary cap despair, I still lean that he starts anew elsewhere in 2026.
According to Jeff McLane, the Eagles will take on $20 million in dead money for 2026 if he signs with another team during free agency.
Philadelphia keeps close eye on cornerback market via free agency and trade
The CB2 spot last season was a weakness for the Eagles, and they’ve already taken hard looks at cornerback prospects expected to go fairly early in his year’s draft. I expect they’ll try to attack that starting outside CB spot to play opposite Quinyon Mitchell during free agency.
Adding a proven talent there would allow Cooper DeJean to remain in the slot, where he shined in a major way in 2025. Riq Woolen, Nahshon Wright, and Jamel Dean area ll intriguing names set to hit free agency next week.
The Eagles need to get back on their Super Bowl trajectory with an effective offseason when it comes to their roster. The free agency period will play an aggressive hand in how that gets done.
We’ll see how the front office and coaching staff navigate it all rather soon.
