NFL free agency is set to get underway next week and it appears that at least one former Tennessee Vols standout will be on the move.

Former Volunteers defensive back Alontae Taylor said goodbye to the New Orleans Saints on Friday via a post on Twitter/X.com.

The Saints selected Taylor in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

“New Orleans – thank you for letting me shine in ‘The Big Easy,’” tweeted Taylor.

Taylor played at Tennessee from 2018 to 2021. He moved from wide receiver to cornerback before his true freshman season.

ESPN’s Katherine Terrell, who covers the Saints, noted this week that Taylor is the most likely New Orleans free agent to be “on the move” this offseason.

“The Saints have moved on from their high-priced corners in recent years, trading Marshon Lattimore and letting Paulson Adebo leave in free agency,” wrote Terrell. “They’re more likely to move a player on their roster to the nickel spot that Taylor occupied or sign a player to a team-friendly deal if Taylor’s market is more than they want to pay….The Saints seem set to lose Taylor.”

Taylor has played in 51 games with 44 starts for the Saints over the last three seasons. He’s totaled 247 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, and 41 passes defensed during those three seasons.

The former Vol should be in store for a nice payday in free agency with that kind of production on his resumé.

The Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans are among the teams that could make sense for Taylor in free agency.
