Tight end Jack Van Dorselaer saw significant action during his true freshman season with the Tennessee Vols, but he still decided to hit the transfer portal after the season.

Van Dorselaer didn’t make a big impact in the passing game — he had just five receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown — but he was on the field for some key moments.

The Texas native, for example, served as a key blocker on the Vols’ final two scoring plays in a crucial overtime win against Mississippi State last season.

Van Dorselaer spoke to reporters at Oklahoma on Monday and quickly explained why he left the Vols for the Sooners.

The former Vol said he felt Oklahoma’s offense was a better fit for him.

“As the season went went on, I learned some things,” said Van Dorselaer. “I just felt like this offense was better for me, and a better opportunity for me to succeed at the next level.”

Van Dorselaer also said that Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle sees him as a more of an everything tight end.

“I think he (Arbuckle) sees me more as a hybrid guy,” said Van Dorselaer. “Like I said earlier, not just blocking, not just pass catching, but doing everything. So I think that’s kind of also what drew me to Oklahoma was that aspect of it.”

It sounds like Van Dorselaer wanted to be involved a bit more in the passing game in 2026 wherever he landed.

Van Dorselaer also pointed out that he couldn’t pass up playing for new Sooners tight ends coach Jason Witten, who, of course, is a Volunteers legend.

Oklahoma and Tennessee aren’t scheduled to play each other in 2026.
