Bills’ Josh Allen should be pounding the table for the team to add a former All-Pro and soon-to-be released wide receiver in free agency
Brandon Beane needs to find a way to get this done.
The Buffalo Bills have plenty of team needs, but one of the biggest is still to add some depth and weapons in the receiving room. Yes, they have former Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore, but you can never have too many weapons for the 2024 MVP and quarterback Josh Allen.
The Bills had been relatively quiet during the free agency period before signing EDGE Bradley Chubb to a massive three-year contract. Now, Buffalo should look to a former All-Pro receiver who would immediately raise the ceiling of the entire room.
That man is none other than San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Aiyuk has been rumored to be released soon by the San Francisco 49ers, and Allen should be on the phone with general manager Brandon Beane to encourage him to get the job done and bring Aiyuk to Buffalo. It’s a no-brainer at this point, even with some of Aiyuk’s injury history and off-the-field issues.
Now it’s important to note that the Bills would most likely have to battle with the Washington Commanders to get the wide receiver, as Washington has opened up as the favorite to land him.
Former All-Pro Brandon Aiyuk should join the Buffalo Bills in free agency
The six-year veteran was selected as a second-team All-Pro back in 2023, where he had 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, all while averaging 17.9 yards per reception and accounting for 64 first downs.
In 2022, he recorded another 1,000-yard season with eight touchdown receptions. In 2021, he had over 800 yards and five touchdowns. And in 2020, he had over 700 yards and five touchdowns. As Sports Illustrated reported, he never had fewer than 12.5 yards per reception throughout his career with the 49ers.
Aiyuk signed a massive four-year, $120 million contract extension in 2024 but was only able to record 375 yards on 25 receptions through seven games before suffering a significant knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. While he did rehab in the offseason, the 49ers shut him down in 2024, and he didn’t play a single snap.
Brandon Aiyuk didn’t play a single snap in 2025 while dealing with a knee injury
He was placed on the reserve/left squad list in December and stayed there through the rest of the season. Things weren’t always gravy with the organization, and Aiyuk found himself in some trouble after posting a video on social media with him going over 100 mph, racing past the stadium.
Yes, there are some character issues at play, but Buffalo brought in Stefon Diggs, and I can’t imagine Aiyuk is any worse than what Diggs was when he played in Buffalo.
Buffalo is firmly in its Super Bowl window, and the front office has shown it’s willing to be aggressive to maximize Allen’s prime. The addition of Moore was a big step in the right direction, but adding another dynamic playmaker like Aiyuk would take the offense to an entirely new level.
If Aiyuk does hit the open market, it’s exactly the type of move Beane should be exploring.
Talent like that rarely becomes available, and pairing him with Moore, wide receiver Khalil Shakir, and Allen would give Buffalo one of the most dangerous passing attacks in the entire league.
For a team that has come painfully close year after year, a move like this might be the kind of big swing that finally pushes Buffalo over the top.
