Troy Aikman shares a surprising update about his consulting gig with the Miami Dolphins
Time to saddle up for another go-round, it seems.
The Miami Dolphins‘ first week of the 2026 offseason is coming to a close and new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has been blitzing the roster amid a slew of holes.
His work comes just two months after he formally got the gig as Miami’s man in charge — and we’re now finding out that one of the power players that helped in the decision to hire him is going to be sticking around (in some capacity) to watch him work. Troy Aikman is apparently going to keep working with the Dolphins after his consulting gig this winter for the GM hire.
Troy Aikman shares that he’s going to continue working ‘in some capacity’ with the Miami Dolphins
“This year, the Dolphins reached out to me and asked if I would help them in their GM search and head coaching search. Kinda caught me out of left field, I wasn’t expecting that. But I dove into it, decided I would do it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Felt like I was of some help and where that might go I’m not sure. I’m gonna continue to work with them in some capacity and that’s kind of scratched whatever itch I had when it came to being in the front office.”

Oh. Well alright then.
It seems as though this consulting deal between Aikman and the Dolphins has a little bit of a longer shelf-life than maybe everyone first assumed. It was, at the time, a bit of a surprise, to find out that Aikman was going to stick around for the head coaching search after the Dolphins landed on Sullivan to serve as their general manager. I, for one, am glad.
The Sullivan pick doesn’t have enough body of work to prove itself a hit or miss yet — but it is easy to respect their process thus far. And Aikman, with his name on the decision, should be invested in the results. He can stay that way by keeping up with the happenings here in South Florida. It’s a good move in my book.
